I am taking my kids with me on a week long trip to Sioux Falls, SD. Is there anything fun for them (and me) to do in that area?

Thanks!

I haven't spent much time in Sioux Falls itself, but I there are the falls to see obviously. They also have a minor league ball team the Canaries if you're there during baseball season. It's a really nice park. The seats are cheap too!!

We lived in Pierre for a year and a half. I know more about the Rapid City/Black Hills area if you are planning on heading out that way.

I grew up in SF and my parents still live there so visit often. Some nice things to do with kids are:

Visit the Falls

Go to the Butterfly Pavilion which is off 49th St between Western and Louise.

I haven't been but my Mom took my kids to a place right next to the Butterfly House that is run by the Game & Park Dept. it was free and my kids loved going through it. Stuff about native animals etc. There is also a nice park to play at right there too.

The Washington Pavilion downtown has a nice children's museum type place.

Those are the things I can think of off the top of my head. HTH!

I am living in Sioux Falls right now and love this town -- but put on the spot of fun things to do and I can think of the things the pp mentioned and then start to draw a blank - :rotfl: but I know there is more to do -- what time of year are you coming - that will help.

Oh and are your children boys or girls?

It'll be the last week in March. (I'll be there the whole month of March--anything for me to do?)

They are on Spring Break and I normally have the week off but work just sprung this unexpected trip on me :-(
The boys are 14, 9, and 6.

Thanks again!

If you and/or your children are familiar with Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House on the Prairie), one of the places she and her family lived (DeSmet, SD) isn't that far from Sioux Falls. It would make a really nice day trip. There are several locations connected to her that you can visit. We were on our way to Yellowstone, stopped overnight in Sioux Falls, and just happened to find out DeSmet was nearby. We stayed over an extra day so we could go there. I grew up in SF and still have family living there. The Washington Pavilion was my high school. I was teh last class to graduate from that building, it was very sad when they started the renovations.

We used to go to Gigglebees with my younger siblings and I've taken my kids there a few times. It's an arcade which isn't a big thing but the robotic waiters are fun.

My uncle works at the Butterfly House. He took my kids when they were visiting for an extended vacation with my mom and dad. They loved it.

I know they've done a lot with the zoo, I haven't been since I left home.

I'll have to call and check if it's still there; but I enjoyed the old-fashioned soda fountian at Zandbros.

While you're in town, check out Carnaval Brazilian Grill. It's north of 49th and Louise. My DSis and BIL took me there and it was so yummy. It can be pricey; lunch is affordable though.

I'll have to ask my DSis what else you can do. She might know of a few things during March or if there are other things for families during the time you're going to be there.
