OT - Toronto restaurant recommendations?

I forgot the Sultan's Tent on Front Street!!!

I can't believe no one mentioned Big Daddy's Crab Shack and Oyster Bar on King West across from Roy Thompson Hall.

ww(.)bigdaddys(.)ca (It won't let me post the URL)

It's mine and FW favorite  .

Experience the sights and sounds of Louisiana at Big Daddy's Crab Shack and Oyster Bar! With pictures and postcards of jazz singers and New Orleans streetscapes adorning the walls, you can't help but feel like you've been whisked away to the American South. Enjoy a New Orleans Hurricane Cocktail at the bar, or sit back and take in a live band in the Voodoo Lounge. The Courthouse dining area provides the perfect setting for lunch or dinner

Cheers

Ooh excellent - we love seafood!! :cheer2:

I'm surprised no one has mentioned a DISmeet at one of these restaurants! ;) Depending on your travel dates and restaurant preferences, I'd be game. (Heck, being a Type A planner who loves to play tour guide, too, I'll offer to plan something if there's interest.)
It might be nice to get some DISers together and maybe be able to provide a 'circle of friendly acquaintances' to the DISer who is considering moving here :-)

If anyone's interested, just reply to this thread and once we have a date and place(s), I can call around and set something up. Personally, for a large group, I'd suggest something in a moderate price range, but hey, if I *have* to dine at Canoe or Sasur or whereever, that'd just be Ya sacrifice for Disney/DISboards I'll have to make!

I'd be interested in a downtown Dismeet! Moderate is more my range!

Thanks,

Marilynn

p.s maybe you should start another thread for this!

If you are going to Marches (I know it's not tha name now) be prepaired to pay for EVERYTHING. Example..if you want a drink...$$, if you want chicken $$, rice $$ dessert $$...it adds up pretty quickly! I know you said money is not an issue, but it'll add up really quickly, and it may be a little shocking for the amount of food you actually get.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Bistro 990; their set menu at lunch is a 5 star meal at 2 star prices :-) $25 including tax and tip (but not alcohol) for a three course fabulous, high end French cuisine lunch. (But I'm totally biased as it is my sentimental favourite restaurant in Toronto....and a favourite of the Yorkville/Hollywood North set.)

$25 for lunch sounds pretty reasonable :) Is it fixed menu? What's the atmosphere like at Bistro 990? Is it dressy (for lunch) or just business casual? Sorry for the questions ... I'm looking for somewhere to take DBF for a birthday lunch and he's kind of fussy :)

Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone, LeCras DH here :sunny:

One thing i'd really like to try is a restaurant that serves local food, like game. I know Canoe does this type of thing, but is there anywhere else you would recommend? I'd also be interested to know if there are any local foods that we should try when there. When we travel we really like to try out local specialities.

I'd also like to try a really good Japanese restaurant, as the only one we had here closed a couple of years ago, so we don't get to have Sushi and Sashimi often these days.

Bah, hijacking my thread... :rotfl:

Hi hun! :wave2:

Less than a month until we get to Toronto, so a little bump incase anyone else has any great ideas. :sunny:

If you're looking for sushi, you might want to try the Ichiban at Jarvis and Adelaide. The only caution is, that while the sushi is yummy and inexpensive, the service is wildly uneven. You might want to sit at the sushi bar if you're serious about the sushi. They make a great unagi (bbq eel), and their raw fish is fresh and tasty. Don't buy sushi from those stands in shopping malls, it's not fresh, but it is overpriced.

If you want to eat dinner in a Haunted Mansion, try the Keg Mansion at Jarvis and Wellesley (any taxi driver in the city knows the Keg Mansion). It's a steakhouse chain restaurant (reasonably good for midrange steak and seafood, really good appetizers, "Keg-sized" drinks), but this location is the old Massey mansion, and it's reputed to be haunted.

ETA: I know JerseyShark doesn't care for the Keg, but I can't afford the steak places he eats at, so maybe I've just never had the caliber of steaks he's used to. I like the Keg's steaks for the most part, but YMMV.

Korean Grill House on Queen Street West between University and John is a great place to eat.

You cook your own food on a grill at your table. And it is inexpensive. And fun!

Enjoy.

If you want to try Canadian food, Tundra at the Toronto Hilton is great. The last time I was there, they had an amazing elk dish and my DH had an Ontario rack of lamb that was excellent.

That sounds like the kind of thing i'm looking for. DW is Swedish, so i've had elk there and would love to try the bigger version from Canada :goodvibes

Thanks for all the replies, can't wait to get there and try out some of the suggestions.
