Gack! I just read a recently-created (just written THIS WEEK) Wikipedia article that has quite a few errors, but rather than starting an editing war with the creator of the article, i'd like to start a dialogue. I know I can post comments on the article's talk-page but I'd like to contact the writer directly/privately (either through e-mail or PMs).
Cannot find any way to do that, cannot figure out if Wikipedia has a PM function and frankly, trying to navigate my way around the many many many many many many many Wikipedia help pages...reminds me in an odd way of the old days of Usenet user groups.
Please, this is driving me CRAZY, I'm actually upset I didn't think of writing the article myself, this guy is one of my hobbies and now there will be erroneous information out there AGAIN.
HELP.
Yes, I know I can go in and edit it myself, but I'd like to chat/talk with the person first and let them know there are some serious issues with the article and collaborate on getting this thing FIXED. I use Wikipedia all the time, but trying to edit an article is very daunting. It's become the unofficial Bible of the Internet Age and in this person's case these alleged facts have gotten repeated so many times that they have become accepted as a Truth when they simply are NOT. The writer is repeating a lot of fanciful 19th Century claptrap (yes, it's all sourced but it's WRONG) about this historical figure. If you look behind the facts there isn't actually any primary sourced documentation (no military records, no letters, nothing!!!).
Thank you for reading this, can't believe how upset I am.
agnes!
