60 minute FLIGHT to JFK and needing to arrive 1 hour before flight time, plus a one hour layover at JFK equals 3 hours to fly versus 2 hours to drive.
Presumably your 2 hours to Manchester includes half an hour to park and get to the terminal. However, you're not including the same 1 hour to arrive before your flight time at Manchester. So if JFK connection requires 3 hours, by your reckoning, Portland to Manchester in a car requires 3 hours as well. Plus the gas and tolls. That's fine if the trade-off is good for you; it's not for me. I'm leaving PWM at 7:10 am and arriving MCO 11:50, no hassles on I-95.
