OT: Politics and the Dis

Sorry - I have to vent. I come to the Dis to escape the news, and what do we have to see? Countdowns related to the election, Polical views for one party or the other.

Please just keep your views to yourself!

I personally don't care for signature blocks containing Political Advertising. However, I do support the right of people to carry on a political discussion, in the appropriate community based forums. I can ignore a political thread with the best of them. I did however post a new thread yesterday on the Gay & Lesbian board yesterday based on the news. I don't feel that it was inappropriate though.

FYI - I have no idea who I will end up voting for. I am getting older and while I used to vote for what I felt was the best choice for who could do more right for the country as a whole, I find myself now being drawn to vote on the issues as they pertain to me.

Call me selfish and/or short sighted, if you wish, I did what I thought was right for everyone else the last 20 years of my voting life, that's enough public service time. I am not getting any younger or any closer to fully equal rights.

Ouch, Mindy. I'm feeling the burn on that one. I actually think GofFreak has a point. Can't blame someone for wanting a Disney fan forum (except perhaps in the Community Boards as Timon suggested) be politics-free.

People do have the right to express what they want here as long as they are not being disrepectful about it. You have the option to block signatures, so maybe that will be a good idea for you GofFreak.

I don't understand...do you mean on the Community Board? That is what that board is for. I don't think I've seen any political threads here on the Podcast Board.

If I'm not in the mood for the news or political stuff, I read the Theme Park board...that is pretty much all Disney all the time.

If you are talking about people's signature's...you can turn signatures off somehow I think.

The Community Board has lots of threads that don't interest me and frankly some that I find annoying, but I just don't open those threads. No biggie.

I guess I should have made my thoughts more clear....

What I meant was, if you think people are going to keep their opinions to themselves HERE, on THESE boards, you've got another think coming.


That being said, if you want to discuss politics, go to the Community Board...unless it's politics as ranted about on the podcast, then hang out here on the Podcast board. As far as signatures go, if you're going to be offended by them, then there are ways of making signatures invisible under your options. Do that. I detest many of the signatures I see, but I'm not offended by others' opinions expressed therein. If they were offensive, they would be banned. Just because they're not MY opinion, does not make them offensive...just wrong.

I agree with the OP only on the part of I don't care for them. However, I don't care for a lot of peoples opinions. I will however fight to the end for their rights to have those opinions. Even though I'm right about everything, I don't expect everyone to agree with me. Lots of times people are wrong

I actually enjoy reading them, however, I've learned not to join them. It is interesting to read what other people's views are. What I don't enjoy is the blatant display of disrespect towards the leaders or potential leaders of our country.

Hey at least you get to vote for your leader! Gordon Brown got in by default, I'm sick of the current party and then to have someone take power without an election it sucks Oh well roll on May and we can hopefully express our opinions

And in response to those thinking the US election trail is never ending - I didn't realise it took so long for all the state votes, in this country the main election happens on one day! I still don't fully understand the workings of politics/elections both sides of the pond so apologies if I've used the wrong term

I enjoy seeing/hearing what others opinions may be without having to read through pages of threads. I also love the way (it seems) you guys are so fired up about politics - the way some Americans have those support posters one their front lawn etc. From the outside it seems like you all care and want to make a difference - here it's like we can't be bothered as a nation

I am all for expressing ones views, it's just a god given right, but in my years of posting on message boards and playing online games I have found out the 2 things one should never discuss because it always ends in debate is...

1. Politics
2. Religion

Stay out of the Community forum and you won't see much political stuff. I agree that all this election stuff has dragged on forever. There should be a law that says you can't start campaigning until about three months before the primaries. Just when the whole presidential thing gets sorted, the governor's race in Illinois heats up... blah!

It can be disheartening when you read some of the negative posts out there. My best advice, don't bother reading anything related to politics if you don't want to be upset. That's what I do!
