My kids were just invited yesterday afternoon to a birthday party for a girl who is going to be 10 and I have no idea what to get a girl her age, my kids are younger and I'm clueless. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated :)

Here are a couple ideas from my DD11 .

1. Webkinz or webkinz stuff
2. Claires gift card - they have these at my local grocery store
3. Movie gift card
4. Game plan dvd
5. Video game (she has a ds)

I would do gift card to movies, Claires, Limited II or Justice. High School Musical stuff might work, as well as Hannah Montana.

Book stores have Hannah Montanna books or gift card to the book store.

Craft stuff or gift card to Michaels.

Mall gift card.

When I was struggling with what to get my niece, one of the moms told me you can never go wrong with fancy PJs from places like I mentioned above.

I reccomend either craft-type stuff or board games (age-appropriate, Life, etc).

Another idea, what about a movie? A disney live-action would be appropriate, maybe a new release like The Game Plan or something to guarantee she doesn't already have it.

I'll second the recommendation to get a Webkinz.

DS6 loves them and the girls across the street (ages 9 and 11) have 12 each!!! The cost is right (~$14-15) and the purchase includes 1 year of access to the Webkinz website, which is really cute!

HSM is a safe bet (my eldest daughter is 10) over here in the UK at the moment, even if they're not really "into" it, it'll be something they can use in school and fit in (binder, pencil tin etc)

Also at age 10 it depends very much on the child- my eldest daughter it would be books, entirely books- from anime novels through to Gemmell, Pratchett and Tolkein, she's a big time reader and very able. Also she enjoys a variety of crafts, alot of bead work. Her bestfriend however is all about water- swimming clubs, scuba etc, her other friends one is very into dance so hair accessories (very, very sparkly ones) are always a great idea as she wears them for competition dance.

Webkinz are fairly new here- do they require community interaction on a public website or is it individual websites? As some parents might be web-safety conscious. We have little starz here too where a star is named for the child when you buy the fluffy toy.

and it is all about the Webkinz here. They just came out with figures that are cute if you can find them.

HSM and Hanna Montana are usually safe bets. Movie tickets or GC for bowling or ice skating would be fun, and crafts were a good idea. My DD received an adult beading kit for Christmas and was thrilled with it. She is mainly a "book" kid as well.

For the other poster.. webkinz is a plush that you purchase that has a code. You plug in the code on the website and then you have a virtual version of your animal to play games with, feed, decorate its room.. it's crazy and fun (they kids and I have 18 combined..) It is very kid friendly. You can interact with others, but you only know their username, and what you can say is extremely limited. I don't feel there would be any reason at all for someone to be concerned about a child using the site.

As for games, our favorites are Apples to Apples, Scene It Disney, Blokus, Sorry, and Uno Attack. Unfortunately these can get pricey.

When my DD was 10, I suggested
- Barnes and Noble gift card
- Blockbuster gift card
- Movie theater passes
- Diary/Journal
- Nail polish
- Small purse

Hi, the best gift my daughter received for her own 10th birthday was a lovely blue planner/diary complete with calculator, address book, daily organiser etc. She still has it now 3 years on a takes it with her everywhere. I think 10 is a great age for this gift as they are just starting to get seriously socially aware and see us using our planners all the time, so it makes them feel like they ahve been promoted into the adult world a bit i think.
