OT: Pixie Dust Request

Hi All....
I couldn't think of a better place to write this and I apologize that it is off the topic...Kind of...
I just got an interview for a job I really want and could use a little pixie dust in hopes that I get this job.
To make this request wedding friendly...Getting this job would mean I could spend more money on the wedding!!! Not that spending money is the goal ...but I could add a couple more enhancements that I would really like to have. And surprise my parents with a couple extras as well...
Any encouragement is greatly appreciated. I've never had to interview for a job before...and went back to school with the hopes of having the opportunity for this job! I'm really nervous and really want to do well...

Congrats! When you go in for that interview, smile, and think to yourself "why wouldnt they want me" . Confidence is reallly important. And being sincere. Knock em dead!!!

I hope it goes well. If you interview with a girl tell her you are getting married and hopefully she will want to talk about your wedding it would def make her remember you!

Like Dakcp2001 said just be super confident. Before you go just try to think about all of the qualities of a model employee and then try to show that you have those qualities in your responses to all the questions.

The last time I interviewed (long time ago) the only thing that really tripped me up was that they asked - what do your friends not like about you - and I was like I can't remember what my answer was I guess it was good enough - because I got the job. But ahead of time try to think about your best qualities and fancy words to describe them. Try to think of negative qualities a model employee would have and have them on hand just incase you are asked the same question!!!

Good luck!!! If I knew how to find the little pixie dust wand face I would use it - but I can never seem to find it.

Remember, be yourself and RELAX!! The best interviews I've done are ones where I'm completely relaxed and quite happy to be myself and have fun with the interviewers.

The woman I am interviewing with knows I'm getting married at Disney! I got engaged during my internship...It came up on the last day when we all had lunch together. I guess that is one of my benefits...I know them...but there are other past interns that are also going to be interviewing...

From another website I frequent:

I like to make a table with the rows in the left column listing the qualities/experience/etc. that the employer has said they want in their ad or job description. I isolate each skill, ability, knowledge, (etc.) into an individual row. Then in the right hand column, I put in experience I have that matches up with that. I bring this with me to the interview. This helps me in 2 ways -
1) to organize my thoughts so that I can answer their questions more succinctly (I tend to talk a lot).
2) at the end of the interview, along with asking any other questions, I scan my table. If they have not asked questions or my answers have not touched on some of the experience that they should know about, I can put it out there. "Your job description mentioned that you need someone who has done X. I don't think we discussed that I had 2 years at organization ABC doing X for the LMN target group...."

Also, I think I actually posted this before a while ago, but I completely agree with others who say to always ask questions. Some of the ones that are very helpful to me are:
- What is the most important skill someone coming into this job can have?
- What is the biggest challenge the new person will face? (and I've had employers be amazingly candid here)
- What do you want the person to have accomplished in their first week? their first month?
- How do you measure success for this position?

These questions not only help me decide if I want the job or not - (and I have closed an interview by saying "I don't think the way you measure success is a good match for my skills. Good luck in your search, but I don't think I"m the right person for the job". That org called me back a few months later to see if I was still job hunting, because they had a different job open.) - but the questions provide an opening to sell myself a little bit more. On one job interview, the task they listed for the first week was something I had done to prep for the interview. I mentioned that, and it was directly responsible for me getting the job.

These are awesome! I'm off to check out that website next! I'm trying to get sample questions for the specific position and then will work on answering each question on paper with the hope that will help the answers come better when I interview.

I know I know...I keep telling myself that there are 4 or 5 candidates. That they have to interview each one (this week) call references, etc. That can take a long time.

I'm not sure I will last that long...but I will try!
