So, I figure you guys can help a mom out... and while it is nod Disney travel per se, it is a Disney movie...

DS (age 5) and I were at Bureau En Gros earlier today and he watched part of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie (not sure which one) playing on a TV at the store. When I told him it was time to go, he politely asked to stay for the rest of the movie. I said no, but maybe we could get it on itunes to watch on vacation.

Well, itunes (Canada edition) lists it as PG. However, every other site, listing, etc. lists it as PG-13 and notes it was Disney's first PG-13 movie.

Why does it get the lower rating in Canada? And it was not Quebec that issued it since they do not even have a PG rating. :confused3

I am just trying to decide if I should let him watch it as I have not seen the movie.

TIA... and I guess I will be screening it soon, and then decide.

While my family loves these movies, I think 5 might be a little young yet. There's no swearing or inappropriate sex scenes, but it can get violent and quite intense for a little guy.
Watch it yourself first, because you know him better than anyone. But for my kids, they were a bit older.

I have a 6 1/2 year old and he has watched all 3 movies as soon as they came out. The first two on DVD and the 3rd in theaters. So he was only 3 or 4. He knows them off by heart and can tell you exactly what happens. He was so excited when he was 4 and got to meet Captain Jack Sparrow in Disenyland. I guess it all depends on how your child handles things. My kids know that it is only a movie and not real. If you are concerned then I suggest watching it yourself first like the pp stated.

i ran across the rating problem last year when i took my spark and brownies to the movies. here the one we went to was listed pg and in the states it was pg13. surprisngly we are a little more lax in our ratings.
i agree with the pp's watch it yourself first. i personally love the pirates trilogy but it can be a bit over the top for wee peeps.

Thanks! Watching the movie this week is in my plans... he watches Star Wars and we are going to watch the first Harry Potter with him over vacation, so we will see.

DD will need to be asleep for this one, though! ;)

He is actually closer to 6 than 5 and loves the WDW ride... he went on it several times when he turned 4 and again over our trip in Feb. The ride did not scare him and when I mentioned the title of the movie he immediately asked if it was the movie of the ride.

Going to get it from itunes tonight since DH wanted to see it before DS said he did... we are a bit behind in movie watching.

Thanks for the advice!

I know what you mean about the lax ratings, what really got me was that QC has it as G! Guess it is since they do not have PG, it jumps from G to +13.

I think the viewing will take place tomorrow night, although that might make us want to switch from CSR to a Pirate Room at CBR...

Thanks!!!:goodvibes

really? i didn't know that!!!

Yep, each province does their own thing... and QC is the only one with no PG.

Getting ready to watch in a few minutes, just synced the movie onto the ipod!

well you learn something new everyday! enjoy the movie! i avoided it for years, then stumbled on it on cbc and now i love all three!

it is not for my 5 year old right now... I think it will be a good way to keep him interested in Disney when his younger sister is still into princesses :)

Thanks everyone.
