OT - Part 3 - Do we really chat this much?!

My trip pre-dates Desperate Housewives...I'm showing my age. SFMM had a ride called The Viper -DH went on but I stayed on the ground. It was frightening just to look at. We met a couple there who were Disney fans, Val, Robin, and their son Christopher-Robin. I keep expecting to meet them on these boards. Universal had just opened the Jurassic Park ride - I still get thrills when I remember seeing the huge gate looming in the distance. Happy days.:goodvibes

We rode the Viper, that is one of the more tamer rides now!!

DH and I are huge coaster fans too (we have AP's for Alton Towers!) We rode all the coasters at SFMM, X2 was the only coaster in a long, long time we felt the need to hold on to when we were on it!

We went to Alton Towers this summer and stayed at Splash Landings. It was a trial to see how DD(4) coped with big theme parks. She loved it and asks me if we can go back on a weekly basis. I can't wait to tell her we're going to DLRP.

Im not a roller coaster fan at all Im afraid. I love BTM - its my favourite ride but thats as daring as I'll go (apart from TOT of course)

I'm a huge rollercoater fan too - although I was too chicken to go on some of the big ones at SFMM. I prefer the oldstyle bone-shakers to the loop-the-loop variety. DL was the first park, wasn't it? Have you been to WDW? That's my aim one day. I would love to stay onsite there but I would wait until my children are teenagers so they can take full advantage of all the rides and attractions.

I've only ever been to WDW, which was about 11 years ago. I really want to go back there though.

Yes, DL was the first Disney :goodvibes

I had Tussauds annual passes (being in the south, you never used to be able to get single park annual passes) for a couple of years and used to visit the various UK parks several times in a year (depending on the park).

I loved being able to visit lots, though Alton Towers is my favourite so it's a bit of a pain getting back up there every so often.

:lmao: I would never survive there now! I went on the corkscrew at Alton Towers (the queues for Rita were ridiculous) and when I got off, I felt like a cocktail shaker. My 8 year old went on 4 times and couldn't get enough of it. I might have to leave the coasters to the young'uns...:rotfl:

Yeah we have the Merlin pass as it is now, you can get into sea life centres, london dungeons etc as well as Alton Towers and the other theme parks. We stay at one of the hotels for one night a year as a treat. When we were last at WDW I was sitting in the hot tub at the beach club villas on christmas day and an american couple asked if I knew alton towers well as they were visiting England the following year and wanted to go there! I helped them plan!

Oh Corkscrew is rough.

If you get a chance to go to Parc Asterix, then that's a good park. Gouderix is very rough though (rougher than Corkscew). Tornerre de Zeus is amazing though :goodvibes

Do you buy your Merlin passes with Tesco vouchers? My friend is thinking of doing that in a month or two.

We've had the passes for years so we just get them at the park at the renewal rate. We use our tesco vouchers for air miles. They are really good value as the renewal rate is a lot cheaper than the 1st time buy rate.

I love rollercoasters, I haven't been to Alton Towers for years. I really want to go back there to see what the new rides are like.

Rita is one of my favourite rides, you get great air time (where you are out of your seat!!) I never hold on on coasters. Air used to be one of my favourites too until I rode tatsu at SFMM, that flying coaster goes really high and you are laying on your front as if you are flying!

Sorry, I'll shut up, after Disney rollercoasters are my other love!!

we'll talk about something else then Diane :rotfl: Leave these dare devils to compare thrills :rotfl:

I might have to join you. I don't think I could go on any ride that spins me upside down now - gravity is my enemy. lol

No feel free to talk coasters I was just commenting that I have said all I can on the subject .

The first coaster I went on was at Lightwater Valley where they had the biggest coaster in the UK (before The Big one at Blackpol was built)
I took a group on a school trip and was dragged on - :scared1: :scared1: but I went back on again
It didnt go upside down though - thats what I cant cope with

Agreed about Rita - much better than Stealth in my opinion (I love the sustained speed).

The ultimate. It's still the longest in the UK I think. Never has been a major contender in terms of height though.

I've just noticed the time. It's time for me to start my usual ritual of not being able to get to sleep. Don't you just love insomnia? Good night all. Send me a few:goodvibes through the day to help me with my:teacher: and make the inspectors go:banana: .Speak to you all tomorrow.
