Does anyone ever have trouble downloading Adobe Epub library books to their Nook? I can download the book to my mac but when I choose "open with Adobe Digital Editions", the book doesn't show up. I cleared my cache and I'm running the latest version of ADE. They should be showing in ADE then I can drag them ot the Nook.

I have a Sony eReader, but often need to use Adobe Digital Editions to open -- our situation may be similar.

I have to use CTRL-O (or up near the top - hit the arrow next to Library and choose "Add File to Library") to bring it in so that my eReader will recognize the book. Then drag it to the reader, which I connect before opening ADE.

Hope this helps -- I'm sure someone else will have a better solution.

hmm... I'm not sure about mac. But with my pc when I download a library book it automatically opens it up on ADE. And then like you said, I just hook up my nook and drag it over.
Have you tried to click open instead of save to download? I know it's a silly question...

I tried that and get an error message. I'm going to bring my laptop and Nook into the library for help, I think. Although, the tech person there said she isn't too well versed in e-books. Grr, they should be IMO, we have a large, well-funded library system.

Try running the document thru Calibre first and editing the meta-details. I've had some problems with some documents and when I've done this the problem goes away.

The two problems I had the first time I tried this (keep in mind I am on a PC)...

First, I tried to save the library book to my hard drive and then open it in ADE. Wouldn't work. When I clicked "Download" from the library website and had the prompt with "Open" "Save" and "Cancel," I had to click Open from that very first prompt for it to open in ADE.

Second, in order to have ADE recognize the nook and let me drag and drop the library book from ADE to the nook, the ADE software had to be registered. And I think the registration needed to match the nook (i.e. same email address), but I am not 100% sure on that. Registration is free on Adobe's website.

Once I did those two things, it worked. I know the first time took a while for me to figure out. No place seems to really have good instructions on it. After that first time, it's been super easy to d/l other library books.

Hi,

I hope this does not come across as snotty but I work in a library and the Tech's job is to work on the libraries computers not the public's computers. :). Our tech could get in a bunch of trouble if she did something to mess up your laptop. That is why they do not like to "help" or say they are not well "versed".

when you say you can download the book to your Mac - are you getting the actual book (file ending with .epub extension) or are you only getting the URLink file?

I didn't think you sounded snotty but I do think the librarian who is the designated tech person should be fairly fluent in Adobe digital editions and Overdrive since that's what the library chooses to use. I wouldn't expect her to help if it was a laptop problem, kwim? they're offering a class in next month in how to use e-readers and e-books. Kind of strange to offer that if they aren't feeling comfortable with them. I'll be at that class, though!

in the past I was able to clean out the "task" and some other folder in ADE and then it would work. this time, I can't find those folders.

they're .acsm files. Maybe that's the problem? the free BandN books open jst fine using ADE.

They shoud be .epub files. I just checked. The original book that I tried to save to my hard drive saved as an .acsm file. The ones that installed into ADE correctly are all .epub.

The acsm file is a small transfer file that is sent out prior to the actual book. The ADE software should be receiving the acsm file, validating your registration and then going out to get the actual book which is an .epub file.

So for some reason you are getting a hang-up before the book is even downloaded to your computer.

I don't have our Mac handy to check on this but I'd start by checking your file associations to make sure that your action is set to be opened with ADE. You don't want to save that file on your computer, you want to Open it with ADE and then save the .epub file on the computer.
