A while back, I posted a question here about diapers. My DS (now 2) was leaking every night. Many of you suggested Huggies Overnites.

At first, the Overnites worked great. A few months later, they started to leak. So we went up a size. DS wears Pampers Cruisers size 3 during the day and Huggies Overnites in size 4 at night. That worked for a month or so, but now he's leaking through the 4's.

Has anyone else has issues with leaking Overnites? Any suggestions?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Change his diaper while he is sleeping during the night. That is what we found worked best at that age. Good luck!

I would HIGHLY recommend a brand called "Diaper Doublers" that sells at BRU for $2.99 for 30. They look like a maxi pad and you add it to your regular diaper. It's the only thing that keeps my DS dry all night. It really is a miracle and cheap if you ask me. They sell out quickly though, so when you see them, buy a bunch!

We're going to do that as a last resort. I'm afraid if he wakes up he won't go back to sleep! :scared1:

I've looked for these many places and have had no luck. Maybe I'll search online.

Thanks!

I would still go with a fast diaper change. You can put 50 diapers on him but it gets uncomfortable the fuller they get and then he will wake up.

We had the same problem....the overnites worked great but then he got too big for them but still needed a diaper!

I never was able to find the diaper doublers. What I did was put on a Pampers cruiser (the new ultra absorbancy ones work great) and then put on a pull up over that. We also always make sure "it" is pointing down. We still had leaks but not too bad.

My DS is about 75% night-trained now, so we can get away with just a diaper now. He sometimes goes in the diaper, but he usually wakes himself up and then calls to go to the bathroom. I am changing a LOT less sheets in the middle fo the night now :thumbsup2

Is it possible he's drinking too much right before bedtime?

I don't think so. I wondered if that may be the case, so we stopped giving him anything to drink after dinner. Unfortunately, it hasn't made a difference. :confused3

Thanks for the great advice, everyone! I guess until I can find diaper doublers, I'll just change him during the night and hope he doesn't wake up. I thought about going up another size in the Overnites, but I don't think that will work. If I try to put him in a size 5, the diaper will probably go up to his armpits and I'll be wrapping the tabs around his waist 6 times! :rotfl: He's kind of small for his age.

How much does your son weigh?
My DD went into size 4 at 12 months (about 19 lbs). She is still in a size 4 at 22 lbs but I can tell she'll be moving up in the next few months.
I always find that what the diaper is labeled at for start size is when my kids go into that size. They never last through the end of the weight range in that size. BTW, my kids wear Pampers baby dry.

My DS also never got close to the upper weight limits on the diapers. As soon as he hit the bottom weight for a size he was in it. I found the Overnites ran very small too!

Another trick is if the diaper is a little long to fold it down (inwards) at the top. This helps it from leaking out the top if it gets too saturated.

I also wouldn't worry too much about limiting liquids. We tried that too and it didn't make a difference. We don't go overboard with liquids in the evening, but he can have something to drink if he wants to.

I'm not sure if these are the same things, but we use something called Good Nites. We get them at BJ's and they have worked wonders for us. My DS5 is a heavy HEAVY sleeper. He literally slept through two hours of a jackhammer right outside his bedroom window. Hence, he still has issues making it through the night. Doesn't matter how much/little water he drinks - he just doesn't wake up when he has to go. The Good Nites have been awesome - hardly any leekes in the year or so we've used them.

Good luck!

I use the PullUps Overnites. They work SO much better than the Overnites diapers. Maybe they'll work for you?

He weighs 23 lbs. The Overnites size 4 starts at 22 lbs, so it should be the right size for him. :confused3

You're right on. At 23 lbs a size 4 SHOULD be doing the job... :confused3
I had the same problem with DS when he was smaller, but I always found if I moved him up a size in diaper that did the trick. I don't think that's the case for you however.

I'd go with a mid-night changing too. Chances are he might not even wake up fully. I can change my DS2 and he barely opens his eyes while I'm doing it.

This is a major issue in our house. My dd5 has special needs so she is still in pullups/diapers. We have tried everybrand on the market and the only true luck I have had has been w/ the huggies goodnites at night but he may still be a bit small for them and I occasionally have trouble w/ them as well. We have been using the pampers under jams (nightwear) during the day sometimes at night but mostly during the day and at night we use the huggies. I found that when we used the pampers diapers the babydry worked better at night than the cruisers.

We don't limit DD3 drinks b4 bed. If anything, that's when she drinks to most (stall tactic) ;)

I make my DD3 go potty b4 bed, and change her before I go to bed. Usually there's a good load in there by 11pm. She's used to me changing her middle of the night, and she used to be a VERY light sleeper. Now she just rolls over and goes back to bed. Toddlers have weird sleep patterns now, opposite of when she was a baby. She'll sometimes sit right up, say something incoherent, and I'll have to pat the pillow and tell her to go to sleep. Then she drops and is out again.

This is what I swear by. Odd time she does leak, I put a towel under her til morning, unless she's soaked.

I have a friend who had this problem with both of her boys. She used two diapers cutting a hole in the first one. This isn't a very economical or environmental solution but the only one that worked for them. Once they moved them into their own beds- about 21/2-3 they started getting them up before they went to bed to go to the bathroom. It actually helped establish a good pattern with both of her boys to get up each night and go to the bathroom. Good luck!

My ds leaked out of diapers alot. We used overnights until he couldn't wear them anymore (he's still not able to stay dry all night yet :confused3 ) so now we've gone back to regular pampers but when I'm done with those I've got overnight pullups to use. He does occassionally fill the diaper so much that his pjs smell like pee. He's also very lazy in the morning so unless I catch him when he wakes up normally he just goes in the diaper which is very annoying since I KNOW he's capable of staying dry all night. There are times though when I go into check on him and I can tell he's gone in his diaper while sleeping so I change him then in order to avoid leaks in the morning. He usually will stay sleeping...may wake up to look at me and figure out what I'm doing but he ALWAYS goes right backto sleep.

I think changing him overnight is a good suggestion and also trying the goodnights or overnight pullups. We always had success with the huggies overnights. I'm sorry they didnt' work out for you. Good luck!
