OT: Need Potty Training Help....PLEASE

I can tell you that I have all girls, but when all three were about 15 months old, I brought out the "potty" and put it in the bathroom. They would go in there when I was and would sit on it (either dressed or not). I did this just so they would get used to it and they could get the "playing" out of the way (you know how they have to take it apart, etc.). At some points they would bring the potty out into the family room and sit on it...hey if it works!! All three of my girls were potty trained by the time they were 24 - 28 months old!! I never pushed them..in fact my oldest potty trained herself..at 18 months she did not like wet diapers..I was having to change her diaper every single time she urinated..FUN!!! I finally told her that she would not have to be wet if she pottied on her potty...that was all it took !

The best advice I can give you is not to stress about it...it will happen when the right time comes. He will show signs that he is ready and you will know them when they happen, trust me. I can remember being a little stressed with my first one..wondering when the right time would be and would I know it when it came...and it did...it just came when I did not even expect it, but I knew it!!

Good Luck!!

Hi Disney Girl
I know exactly what you are going through. My DS is 29 months and was toilet trained just last week.
I tried him just after Christmas when he was 25 months and he was weeing in his pants after I had sat him on his potty and within an hour worked his way through 3 pairs of pants and then screamed blue murder when I sat him on his potty. I then realised that I would follow his lead and went back to the preparation stage where I would sit him on the potty for a wee in the morning, before his bath etc... I also put him in pull ups so that he could get the momentum right of pulling his pants up and down
Joe goes to nursery 4 days whilst I am at work and it was his nursery nurse who said to me that she thought he was ready and that I was to bring some pants with me (last Monday). Within 2 days he was having no accidents and when we spent 2 hours in the car at the weekend he was dry. I still put him in a pull up for bed but I do think it depends on your son when he is ready. Thing is though you become obsessed ::MinnieMo and say every 5 minutes ''do you need a wee'' - enjoy

:cool1: We are in the process RIGHT NOW! It wasn't me who was ready but DD #2 who turned 2 on April 9th! Personally I have a laid back approach and figured that when she was ready (which I was planning on hoping for after our September trip) than I would do it. Last Friday she woke up dry saying "Potty". She wore a diaper (I was not prepared and had no 2T panties), and stayed dry all day! Saturday I decided to keep her in diapers because we had a day outing planned, and she still stayed dry almost all day (1 wet diaper, 1 stinky diaper). Sunday we put panties on and we haven't turned back, in fact today she had been dry all day and has even pooped in the potty, so I'm admitting my wrong thoughts as I felt she was too young, but when they're ready, it's time! We are a non-pull-up family, and we use a potty seat that's cushioned and fits on top of the potty, DD loves it, and we do port it around for a few weeks untill she's comfortable on the big potty!

Good luck!!! My DD's has been using the potty seat on and off for a couple of months now, so introduction is never to early, I think it's just sets the stage for good results!
