OT: Need help shipping frozen food

I want to ship homemade ravioli and sauce to my dad. I have the ravioli frozen and in ziploc baggies. I have sauce frozen and in the ziploc containers. All he needs to do is thaw/heat the sauce and boil the ravs.

How the heck do I ship it? Can I get dry ice somewhere? I plan to do FedEx 2 day to save a bit of money on shipping costs but would like to know where to get dry ice and how to package that.

I need to ship some stuff, too. My brother bought some stuff from DDs fundraiser. It's frozen dough and I was thinking I'd get some dry ice and ship overnight. That's gonna be expensive! So much for raising money for her band trip.

Honestly, I don't think two-day is fast enough to ship frozen food; overnight is really going to be the best.

I would contact FedEx and ask about their requirements.

I agree that it needs to be overnight shipping. 2-day air might not be fast enough. Call FedEx or UPS to see their requirements.

OMG, I just did a quote on fedex site. Standard overnight is $58. It just goes up from there. That is insane.

My mom did this a few years ago. We happened to have one of those styrofoam containers that Omaha Steaks ship in, and we used that for the packaging. I can't remember where she got the dry ice - it seems like it was the package store, but I'm not sure. USPS has limits on how much dry ice can be shipped - I'm sure fedex does too. Two of our grocery chains, Publix an Krogers, have started to carry dry ice. It used to be that we had to find a commercial hardware store that sold gasses to find it. I don't think you need a lot of it. My DFIL got some Omaha steaks for a gift, and he tossed the small piece of dry ice left over into a cooler with some pop. After a little while, the pop had frozen and exploded!

I get dry ice at my local grocery store, Raley's. As for shipping, I'd go with overnight to be safe. But when we buy live fish or corals for our fish tanks online they always do it 2 day....

I bought dry ice at Kroger and wrapped it brown paper bags. I put the item in the bottom of a cardboard box with the dry ice on top. I shipped it UPS next day air saver. Don't go to a pack and mail or that type of place. They are crazy expensive. Do you have a college or something i your city? Go to their mail room and ask them to UPS it.
