Yesterday, my DH called me at work to say that our precious Rottie, Maggie, jumped at the window to see the paper boy and she shattered the inside pane of glass! Luckily, neither the dog nor the kids were cut, but our huge picture window didn't fare so well. The window has 3 separate sections and only the inside pane of one section was affected. I'm looking for anyone who might know how we need to go about fixing this problem. Can just the glass be replaced? Can just the one section of the window be replaced? Or are we looking at shelling out $$$ to get the entire window replaced? :confused3

I do not want to pay for something I do not need, but I do not know what my options are. I am sure someone here on the Dis is in the know on this stuff. Thanks in advance!

Call a glass guy. They should be able to replace just that center section- although I think they may need to break out the double pane of glass to install it. We had an old house and a few of the individual panes were broken- they came out - cut out the broken panes and replaced them easily(I think it was aobut $75 a window square but they were only about 10x6. Good luck and silly girl Maggie glad she is ok.

Our lab broke our window in the fall. Luckily for us is was only one pane of a double hung window and DH was able to replace it with the help of a buddy.

OT: I think I'd be introducing the paperboy to the dog face to face. If both windows had broken do you think she would have chased him? Or was it just a matter of her jumping up against the window to see outside? There's a zillion what ifs in a scene like that but it makes a person wonder what could have happened.

At one time we had a couple of labs and the neighbors great-grandson used to tease them when they were let outside and once we saw him leaving our backyard when we weren't home so we think he'd tease them when they were alone. Then when they'd see him they'd go nuts, barking and growling. I finally caught him teasing another neighbor's dog and told his aunt to keep him away or one of the 4 neighbors dogs might end up biting him. A few weeks later he had a dog bite on his stomach from his grandmother's dog.

Maggie loves other people and dogs and she gets a little jealous when she sees them out walking while she is inside. If the paperboy were to walk into our house, I doubt Maggie would even get off the couch. She just barks and whines when she sees people outside in our front yard. Her and her brother Max are big softies but she is just a little loud. My husband said that when the glass broke, she wouldn't go near the window for the rest of the night. I think she just likes to pretend she's a big meanie as long as there is some sort of detention device in place. She lets our kids (and any others for that matter) crawl all over her and she LOVES it!

We just replaced one of our windows in our picture window. We have a large middle section, and 2 side windows that open and close. They are all hooked as one.

I called Anderson (who made our windows) and they were able to tell me exactly what I needed from the numbers on the window (they were in a triangle in the corner. I ordered it from home depot and put it in MYSELF. That is how easy it was!

Our glass etched on the inside so we needed to replace the whole bottom half of a side window, otherwise the seal would continue to leak and not be energy efficient along with looking awful.

you can replace just one pain we have.

Wow, I've never heard of this *really* happening...our puppy class trainer told us that it could happen with bigger, social breeds and because she put that fear of God in us (and we had a huge picture window in our old house) we always crated our lab during the day. As she got older we offered her run of the house, but she still loves her crate at age 10. You make me feel like it wasn't an urban legend after all!

I'm really glad everyone is OK and I hope you find a good resource for repair. Good Luck!
