My son who is 13 weeks old and sleeps on his stomach (no flames please, this is doctor approved) and sometimes wakes up with a soaked diaper and is soaked through to his jammies all the way up his stomach & chest. He sleeps 8-10 hours per night and I do not wake him to change his diaper.

We use Pampers Baby Dry.

Is there some sort of trick to putting a diaper on a boy??

Can you tell I've never had a baby boy before?

The only thing I could think of is that maybe the diaper isn't tight enough and also remember to check that his wee wee is pointing down. :teeth: I guess you could try another brand of diaper. My 17 month old can't use Luvs - it leaks all the time with him.

Maybe try Huggies. We used Pampers with DS and they worked. Oh- do they still have Swaddlers? Those worked best for us. Can you tell my boy is 4 years old now?

Also, I finally (after three years of Huggies for DD only) tried White Cloud brand from Walmart on a poor week with DS at 3 months or so, and that worked the best for DS, and thankfully he didn't have a reaction to it!

ETA: DH pointed out you don't want the wee wee facing up because of discomfort if nothing else!

Try folding the top of the diaper down in front. Not much, and fold it in towards the tummy. It will make a little "pocket" for the pee to go in so it's not going out the top of the diaper so much.
GOod luck!

My son still does this and he's 2. (we're working on potty training.) Anyway I have had to go to Walmart and buy those "rubber" pants to put over top of the diaper for night time.

i have a 11 month old boy. he had the same issues. he may need a bigger size diaper or a different brand. DS wet through every night - what a mess then i tryed the next size up and that did the trick. no leaking through any more. what a mess, i would have to bathe him every morning at 5 am not fun for either of us! try the next size up of your favorit brand.
hope this helps.

Pampers did not work for us either, so we switched to nightime huggies and that did the trick.. And everyone else is right, make sure the tinky is pointed down and not up... But I think switching diapers will help you out tremendously..

We had boy / girl twins (almost 2 now) and we were challanged with both sexes..LOL..

Have fun with him, I bet he is a cutie...

Try another brand diaper or even move up a size for nights. Brands are constantly changing, so what works for one, doesn't work for another.

I have two girls and a boy. Pampers worked better for my girls and Huggies worked better for my boy.

As others suggested, make sure you point his "wee wee" down or he definitely will leak.

My sis-in-law used something called diaper doublers at night because her kids always soaked through. They look kind of like a sanitary pad and you place it inside the diaper. I know she had trouble finding them at times and when she couldn't get them, she used regular female sanitary pads.

HTH!

Same issue here - we only found relief by using the Pampers Cruisers or Pampers Swaddlers (for sizes 1-2).

They are more expensive, but the difference in cost is worth the time and effort of changing sheets and clothes in the middle of the night. They also have a mesh cover on them which actually keeps the moisture off of their bottom - my little guy never ever gets diaper rash.

OT here - my son is close to a year old and never slept that good at that age - nor this age - ha ha.

Enjoy your little baby boy!

Wow! He really is sleeping good. I'm going to have agree with those who said try different brand diapers. If you have some samples, try those. If you have some friends with babies, ask if you could buy just one (most likely they'll just say take it) of their diapers, because you are trying to figure out which will work best for you. (If you have a daycare or a church nursery, ask the other moms.) This way you don't end up with an entire bag of something that doesn't work.
It took us a while to find what brand worked for each of mine. They were both different!

We use Pampers and found once they started leaking like that, I had to move up a size even if they were still in the weight for that size.

I would try that before switching brands. We tried switching once and he got diaper rash for the first time. Switched back and didn't have it again.

I have a 16 week old baby boy who also sleeps on his tummy. We have been using Huggies, but just got back from the beach yesterday and had used Pampers while we were there. We had to change his clothes and sheets every morning because he had leaked through. We have never had this problem with the Huggies. Dd(3) only used Pampers and slept on her tummy and we never had a leak, I guess that is just the difference between girls and boys.Girls are peeing in a different direction than boys!! Like pp said, make sure it is pointing down :) . To me, the Huggies seem more absorbent in the front and that is the only thing I will use from now on.

Thanks for all the tips!!! He actually just moved to size 3 diapers and they are kind of big on him. I think I'll try the Huggies out. And point his wee wee down - never even thought of that LOL!!!! And some people think girls are harder to take care of!

I know I'm lucky with the sleeping - I still wake up 2-3 times a night to make sure he's breathing. It's been about 10 days now that he's slept this well.

I have a big kid in diapers and this is exactly what we do. I have regular pull-ups for day use and a mega-ultra absorbant one for nighttime which I also put a booster pad into. Most mornings my guy wakes up "contained". Be extra sure his playtoy is pointed south or nothing will work:goodvibes

ETA: incidentally, all my kids slept on their stomachs. That's what we did in the olden days. NO parent would have ever admitted to putting their baby on his back, way back then. Things change

What are nightime huggies? There are so many different kinds! What does the package look like?

It's a dark red package... We usually buy in the box but the plastic packages are the same... And than the regular huggies are in a red and white box.. But the night time ones are a Dark Red Package..

Have fun......

Point his little pee wee DOWN when you put him in his diaper, i learned this very early on and seemed to take care of it LOL :rotfl:

Try Overnight Diapers--they come in much smaller packs (28 ct) but work wonders--they run smaller so when DS was in Size 4 Cruisers he wore Size 5 Overnights

Hope that helps

We also had this problem, and did all of the above, including the nighttime diapers. Then when potty-training we made sure to limit his fluids in the last hour or two before bed.

And I would guess a lot of new moms don't realize to point the pee pee down! I complained to DH that DS would wake from his nap with clothes completely soaked, but the diaper bone dry ~ How could this be??? He clued me in...
