Has anyone camped here? We're planning a trip to WDW and were originally supposed to arrive on January 6. Hubby now thinks we can make it on one day and arrive on the 5th but we need somewhere inexpensive to camp. We'll be getting in late so only need a place to park the trailer for the night.

Thanks,

Jennifer

It is a very nice state park. The camping sites are limited (I think 32-35) and they are open & not private at all. I think only 2 or 3 have sewer, but there is a dump station convenient to the sites. The camping area is far removed from Lake Louisa (where the swimming area is). Too far & too hilly to bike to. It's about 10-15 miles from Disney.

Other places to check in the area is Ft. Summit KOA on I-4 & US 27, there's a KOA on 192E in Kissimmee (check KOA website for address - this is the closest off-site camping area and fills quickly). There is an Outdoor Resort on US27 just north of 192W in Cleremont, but I believe they only allow TT's & MH's - again, check their website. There is also a MH/TT park on 192E called Tropical Palms.

Google "campgrounds in Kissimmee" for other options in the area. I know they are there - just can't think of the names/locations.

You do have other options for a lesser rate then WDW - you just have to know how to find them.

Good luck! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info. We'll just be there the one night. We had problems finding anything at Ft. Wilderness for 1/05. Since it is the Saturday after New Years I guess people will still be there on their Christmas/New Year holidays.

Does anyone know if the comfort stations are clean? We'd prefer to just use the electrical hook-up and not bother with the water/sewer but I know that after 12 + hours on the road I'm going to want a shower. The KOAs are running around $70 (full hook-up) for 1/05. I think we're paying around $20 at Lake Louisa for the same amenities. We'll probably arrive around 8:00 pm and will leave first thing in the am so I'd like to keep it cheap but clean.

Thanks,

Jennifer

For one nite & $20 - use Lake Louisa. The bath facility there (only one) is new, safe and clean. As always, wear your flip-flops to shower in!!

If you're checking in to Disney on 1/6, you will be able to get up when you want, drive around Lake Louisa park and see the true nature of Florida. Lake Louisa State Park is only 20-25 mins from Ft. Wilderness so you can get good and rested the night before arriving at Disney. On 1/5, I doubt you will be able to get into the KOA's nearer to Disney-they book up as fast as Ft. Wilderness. Also, it's typical for the holiday campers to have to be "shoo-ed" out of their sites on check-out day at FW. You may not be able to get into your assigned site before 1pm on check-in day.

I hope you have a safe trip down & a wonderful vacation while you're in Florida!! :thumbsup2

Lake Louisa is a nice state park, the bath houses are clean. You will be pleasantly surprised (but remember is not like the Fort). The only drawback in my opinion, is the lack of shade and privacy. The park used to be an orange grove in the past, nice lakes and hills around it.

Thanks for the thumbs up on the comfort stations! We don't really care about the rest. We'll arrive after dark on Saturday evening and leave early on Sunday morning. It's nice to know we won't have to bother with the water/sewer hookups for just a few hours.

Thanks again,

Jennifer
