OT: jon and Kate + 8 new house?

I watched last night and i think their house is really nice. I think it is a nice upgrade. They have that LONG driveway and the kids can ride their bikes. I think it will make the show better. I know if I bought a house I would love some land with it!

Man though Maddy is MEAN! Did you see her kicking her sister?? I wonder when they watch the show if they see stuff like that and she gets in trouble?

Maddie should have consequences for her negative behaviors, but it shouldn't take Jon & Kate watching the show to catch them. Sorry, I know you can't keep you eyes on all kids at all times, but come on. When DD or DS comes to me and says that the other did something to them and I know it is in their character you better believe I at the very least have a talk with both of them whatever the "alledged" action was.

I though at one point Jon opened his own work from home business...not sure what exactly it is that he does...besides be belittled by Kate.

2?:
1) How long until one of the kids goes a little too far out on the property and Kate no longer lets them out of the house at all?

2)What average 4 yo can't wipe his own bottom??? Needing the TP that's one thing, but her comment about now we won't know in which bathroom to find the child that needs to be cleaned...HU?

I used to always watch the show, I stopped about a year ago. I stopped because I felt guilty for watching, as though I was contributing to the exploitation of the kids. I know that sounds extreme, but I just felt like the kids deserved privacy so why was I watching? I often looked at it like a car crash, you shouldn't look but you can't look away. This isn't saying that if you enjoy it you shouldn't watch but I personally felt guilty for watching so I stopped.

I did watch yesterday though to see the house. I realized it is not a show I enjoy anymore. They are Jon and Kate's kids to raise as they wish, but some of what I saw was sad to me (yes, like the ice cream in Disney, I still think that is just so sad.) I understand privacy too, but to say to my kids you are never allowed in my room again seems so harsh. A little story. When I was pregnant with my oldest, my DH's only sibling, his brother died. DH was at his parents and I was at my parents the night before the funeral. I was missing my DH, hormonal, and sad and needed someone, so as an adult (a very large one at the time) I crawled into their bed with them. I cried, I talked and eventually I fell asleep. I don't think you ever outgrow needing those times with mom and dad, if you do it certainly is not at the age of 4 and 8. I can see having a space that is just yours, but NEVER? That makes me sad.

My family of 5 lives in under 1200 sf. I'd love more room. My younger 2 girls share a bedroom that is 8x8, very small. They have bunkbeds and no dresser or anything (no room for it). Their clothes are in a dresser in our room. I'd love to give them more space but not at the expense of their privacy. I'd also love to take them wonderful places like Hawaii and Skiing. There's lots I wish I could give them but I think most importantly I feel it is my obligation to give them a healthy and happy chidhood, to me that does not include being broadcast for others enteretainment. Again, it's their choice, they will have to deal with the outcome of this show, but I personally don't agree with selling your privacy for any price.

For me it has always been a show that I watch if nothing else is on. I don't tune in each week for new episodes, but aren't we in a way here condeming them for their lifestyle which we threw them into? I mean had we all quit watching would it have mattered? It is like a train wreck we can't look away,:happytv: especially chronic in America, we are more consumed with "others business" than our own. That is simply why we tune in each week to watch. Jon and Kate have become what we have made them. Who would not be a celebrity or live normally when you can no longer go to the grocery without being mobbed by fans? Jon & Kate are now living the life we gave them. Like 'em, love 'em, hate 'em they are a product of what we(society) have done.:upsidedow

Now the Duggers.... Oh my, they are well......I can't decide. :confused3

Jon and Kate started to lose their appeal to me last year when they went on the ski holiday in Colorado. Kate must have said 5x's in that episode that if they could do that type of vacation with 8 kids, anyone could do it. I was thinking that airfare, a ski chalet, new ski wear all around and spa treatments would be way out of my budget with 2 kids.

I'm like you, OP. They have just totally gone out of my league. I no longer find the show relatable anymore. And, I don't find Jon and Kate to be sympathetic characters anymore.

In the beginning, I felt so bad for Kate struggling with all those babies by herself during the week and working a double every Saturday at the dialysis center to cover the bills. I was just amazed at how well she handled it all. I thought it was great when the TLC special earned them enough money for her to quit her nursing job and for them to buy the bigger house. I even thought it was cool that she got the tummy tuck.

Now? It just seems like they have gone too far. Jon no longer works. Kate acts bored and condescending. The over the top and uber expensive vacations are getting old. The Proctor and Gamble Sunday insert with Kate teaching me how to stretch my budget? Gag me. Now, the new mansion? I'm over it.

Exactly! I used to really like the show. Now, it's all about what "freebies" they get, how to sell it to their audience, how many times Kate can belittle Jon and how defensive Kate gets when questioned about money/working for a living.

They say alot that it is all about creating family memories, but how does Jon getting hairplugs, the both of them getting their teeth whitened, Kate's power spa days...help with improving the kid's lives or creating memories?. Are they ever going to show something, anything non-freebie or normal family outings?

One recent episode I actually liked is when Jon took care of the kids and Kate was off doing an appearance. I think it was her doing something with bagged lunches and he would have bought lunches for the kids. :rotfl2:

Comparing it to a car accident or train wreck may be right...at the begining it was 'if this hubby and wife can do it with 8...even with help form neighbors, then I can do it with 2 (2 years apart) without much if any help.'
One phrase that has helped me many times with my patience and temper was when she said on the plane going skiing about 'you can do anything for 15 minutes.'
Oh, and the spa days...a relaxed mommy is a happy mommy?!?!

The only part that made me feel sad was how Kate and Jon told the kids that they'd never be allowed into their bedroom again. What about nightmares, getting sick in the middle of the night, etc? Kate also just killed any breakfast in bed attempts, although she's probably way to OCD to allow eating in bed anyways!

:rotfl2: Kate will just put the sick kid on a hard floor in the laundry room. Remeber she doesn't allow sick children in her bedroom. She got all over John for laying one of the boys on their carpet in the master bedroom when he was sick:sad1: . Hard Laundry room floor...I just get all fuzzy inside thinking about it.

My husband and I couldn't believe the way they handled the whole master bedroom thing last night. Teach the kids respect and to knock, but to forbid entrance is cold.

I also loved how Kate made 2 boys wait forever for John to come in a wipe them after a BM because they didn't "call out" in time...whatever. Now, IMO they need to teach 4 yr. olds to wipe themselves, but don't leave them sitting forever. Oh I forgot, she was so busy cleaning the moldy fridge...whatever again...

When we heard that this morning my DH and I both said "I smell a reality show". :rotfl2: Who knows thouhg, maybe they will have learned from J&K8 and keep the camersa farr away!!!

They said that the mother wanted her identity kept private, then the anchors wer all about 'we want to see the babies and it woudl be hard to walk out of the hospital with 8 babies.' Ummm, hello...these babies are in serious condition. The family is probably worried out of their minds. And the chance of the babies (prayerfully all 8) all coming home at once is slim if at all. They also commented about the last time that 8 babies were born in the US was in 1998, 7 survived and they are now 10...NEVER heard of them!!! How many freebies ya think they get???

I was thinking the same thing last night as I watched this.

Did you see the amount of hardwood floors in that house...ECHOooooooooo x8...well 10 if you count Kate (she speaks for Jon right?).:lmao:

Yes, I heard they were keeping their identity private. We were really just saying it sarcastically. As for walking out with 8 babies, they will no doubt come as they are ready, one at a time if needed.

I agree with many of the other posters about the show having lost it's appeal. I don't know if for me it was the change from a middle-class family trying to get by with 8 kids to a family trying to sell me stuff with all of the product placements, books, ect. Or if it was the way that the show portrays Kate treating her kids. I too was turned off by the parent's bedroom scene as well as the butt-wiping scene. Did anyone else feel like she left the boys up there sitting on the potty a little too long before she finally summoned Jon to go and wipe them? Sorry for the annoyance of having to go to the bathroom, Mom!

I don't begrudge them any of the benefits they have gotton from doing the show though. They found a way to support their family in a way they would never have been able to otherwise. I'm sure if given the opportunity I would take a bunch of freebies too. I just hope that they are saving for when their 10 minutes of fame are over.

Good points! They have indulged themselves with luxuries for free as well. It's not all about the kids anymore or showing America how there family copes with twins and sextuplets. Oh, and I am sure Kate gets paid a good amount for her speaking appearances. They pay celebrities fairly well for speaking appearances I am told. They are totally fine with getting freebies asvthey have told their fans. Oh well, it's just a show and as another poster has said, we who watched and gave the show ratings have helped them become more of who they are now. Even though I believe they got help and freebies from the begining. I think that is the problem some people see with it. It is possible to be greatful for all they have been given don't get me wrong, but eventually it does have to stop. Then what?

And with Maddie: it is healthy for a child to let their emotions fly, but wow! Someone needs to show her how to control herself. But wait...like mother like daughter I guess. She is kind of bratty. It's strange how Cara is completely the opposite...like Jon:)

Sorry, I didn't mean the privacy thing directed to you. I meant is showing how nosey to anchors were being.

I use to love the show. The kids were so cute. What ruined it for me wasn't all the freebies, its the way Kate can so easily dispose of people in her life.

I was always curious why her family wasn't involved in their lives, so I did a little Internet research. What I found wasn't pleasant to read, but it wasn't enough to make me stop watching. When I noticed Aunt Jodi was MIA, once again, I did a little Internet research, and once again, it wasn't pleasant. If that was the only story out there, then it would be easy to dismiss. But there are NO positive Kate stories anywhere on the internet from people in their past.

You would think SOMEONE, SOMEPLACE would have a cute story to tell or a nice story to tell, but all you find are how Kate always wanted more and better. This was even when they were poor and struggling.

I don't begrudge them the free trips or freebies in general, but accept that you AREN'T a normal middle class family and go with it. Stop acting like you are a typical stay at home mom doing the best she can. You are not a typical stay at home mom. You are a career mom who DOES use paid help to make your family run. Stop trying to tell us you don't feed the kids fast food, that you are only using organics, that you fix all their meals. We know you don't so just admit it and go on.

If you want to enjoy the show, DON'T do what I did and google it. It will change your opinion and NOT for the better.

Funny thing about the fast food. There was an episode a couple seasons ago. I think it was when they were redoing Cara and mady's room. In the episode Kate said that her kids never had fast food and didn't even know what it was. A few minutes later one of the twins, don't recall which, was looking out the window and on the dresser by the window was a McDonald's cup. My DH and I were cracking up. I mean, I don't care if you give your kids McD's or not, if you are againts fast food, by all means good for you (I don't like McD's myself), but it was just so funny how the cup happened to be there for that episode!
