OT: jon and Kate + 8 new house?

Ok...it ismore of an association factor. The reason I loved the show is because I could relate more to their lifestyle. Like they could be a neighbor or a friend or just another average family doing average things dealing with average situations. Like dealing with coupons (as Kate says she uses) and shopping for a large family on a budget. These are all average family issues. Well when you throw in the mansion, expensive cars(just an example) and other well beyond average income amenities then it just does appeal to the average target audience that started watching for the same reasons as I have. It is nothing personal against the family or fame they have rightfully aquired. I also applause them, but personally feel like the "reality" in the reality show is gone.

I looked at the pics of the new house (if that's really it - I guess it hasn't been confirmed) and read that they were installing a security gate around the property - or in front of the driveway. That got me to wondering if they decided to move because they were becoming such big celebrities that safety for the children was a concern. I mean, can you picture a fan just walking into their yard to talk to one of the kids/ take pics, etc? I don't know if that's the case, but it would scare me into looking for a house where I could have more security for my children.

I'd much rather watch the Duggers and their 50 million kids. At least I know they earned their money for their huge behind home, and while I know they are probably getting paid as well from TLC I still feel like I have more in common with them. I don't see the Duggers throwing their money in my face and saying look at what we have, I do think there's a greater chance of me shopping at the local second hand store with them then standing in line and PAYING for my kids clothes at the GAP and GYMBOREE unlike Kate.

The Duggars claim their home is a 'house of worship' and do not pay any taxes on it. The family had big money, way before the show came on, from real estate/development. I think the Gosselins are way more honest about things, compared to the Duggars. Give me a mom who actually has emotions compared to the stepford feeling of the Duggar females.

I think they are SO SMART. I mean how the heck else can you give 8 kids EVERYTHING? I mean if they want to give them a GOOD life with vacations and college educations they had to do more than work their 2 jobs. In the begining they were struggling, she was working weekends. Good for them I say.

I agree with you on the "stepford" Duggars. They are like a mini cult with Dad in charge of everything and Mom's a baby factory. No one is that sugary sweet unless heavily medicated.

I personally don't see why they shouldn't have moved. The 8 kids are growing; they were bound to need a bigger house at some point.

I know someone with seven kids and they work average jobs and give their children nice vacations (they drive to Disney instead of fly) and are probably saving for college as well. Kids do not need EVERYTHING to have a GOOD life.

I am not saying you can't, I am just saying good for them to have found a way to do it more easily. Anything is possible if you work hard...now if you find a way to do it without killing yourself, good for you. I know I would love it if my Dh did not have to work himself so hard to make it all happen for us.

I'm still a fan, and anxious to see tonight's episode. They were average people before they had sextuplets, and then they became not-so-average which is why we were all interested in their watching their show. Who among us can say they're raising 8 kids under the age of 7? Wow! They absolutely needed to move out of that house - it was busting at the seams with that many people living under the roof.

I'm sure they need to still watch their pennies (like we all do in these tough economic times), and buy things on sale and use coupons. But with 8 kids within 4 years of each other you have to upgrade so everyone fits. Sure, there are lots of really big families but not many with children the exact the same age. That presents a lot of challenges!

I guess what I'm saying is the reason I watch the show is because I can't relate AT ALL... so it's fun to watch.

I don't understand why people say that they aren't "relatable" simply because they've taken vacations or bought a house? I don't think the point of the show is to be "relatable", b/c who can seriously relate to having 8 kids? A very small percentage of the population. I think it's wrong for anyone to sit here and point a finger, b/c we are not in their shoes. I don't want to have a 3rd child b/c of the fact that I'm afraid of not being able to provide vacations, experiences, and college for them. If I had 8 kids, I would do WHATEVER (legally anyway) I had to do to give them all these things.

I don't mean to be snippy and mean, I just don't think that anyone benefits from judging and not liking them anymore because they take nice vacations or have a bigger house. By the way...that house is BEAUTIFUL!! I'm happy for their success, and wish all the best to them.

I am a huge fan of the show and I defend it to my husband every week when I DVR them. I agree that if I had 8 kids (heck if I just had my 2) and I was offered the chance to give them more comfort and experiences then I would jump on it. I still watch every week because I think the kids are just to adorable. I think Jon and Kate have a "normal" marriage and it is fun to see that not ALL marriages are "sugar and spice and all that's nice."

I also thought about the family's security when I watched. What is to stop somone from walking up to their house and doing God knows what?

Think those families with quints are thinking...man just one more and it could have been us?:rotfl: Some people say there isn't much difference between 2 to 3 or 3 to 4, so how about 5 to 6.:scratchin

Good for them that they are able to move...especially if it has turned into a security issue. Personally I think the house is a little much...BUT that is just my taste..maybe it was all those windows to clean. And to have college taken care of (maybe, I'm not them and don't know) has got to be a relief. I agree with the PP who said it is a relatability issue. Great that they have the opportunities to all these vacations and I know that it is marketing for the companies, but just kind of looses something when smaller families don't seem to get the same opportunities...or other large families that are not sexpulets.

I didn't relate because I had Sextuplets and Twins...It was because we also had young children and were facing many of the same milestone and concerns. I do love some of her phrases, like the one about here's dinner an dif you don't like it the next meal will be breakfast. It just seems that I do not find as much interest in the show anymore...could be because it seems that the show seems to be even more commercialized and the reruns are on a lot, this is a TLC thing not them personally or maybe it is because if I want to watch whining children I will keep mine up during their time slot.

Someone mentioned Mattie. Granted she is a child and I don't want to speak ill of her, but does anyone think that some of her attitude may be coming from being on camera? or that is her method of getting attention is a large family?

or that is her method of getting attention is a large family?

I have a feeling this is it. However, this may have been her personality without the little ones. Kinda like the alpha female of the twins. Kara is so sweet and quiet.

I don't agree...can you imagine if all the thin people of the U.S. were upset because they weren't given the same opportunities as those on Biggest Loser? I think it's a matter of luck and I remember when The Goslings first appeared on Discovery Health, and I know that when they first did that 1 hr. special, I don't think they had any idea that it would end up being as big as it got.

I'm not here to defend "them" but it just sounds ridiculous in my opinion to judge them as "not relatable". Does anyone seriously relate to ANY reality TV show? Like the Real World, the Duggars, or even the Goslings. The reason most people watch any reality TV is b/c it is unrelatable. It's a fantasy and another life other than ours.

Thank you for posting the link to the pics. My immediate first thought.....Who needs a house that big. My next thought....Well Duh! They do. With 8 kids, I'm sure they really fill out the house. I like the show, but am not a huge fan. I don't really agree with how she treats her hubby. Now of course that may be how the show portrays them, but I feel like she's a little obsessed with his looks and puts him down regularly about his appearance. He seems so patient, and good natured. I really feel bad for him at times. I think there needs to be mutual respect in a relationship. I have to say that I really do like the Duggar's better. I think they're a little crazy for having so many kids, but as long as they support them and love them.

Well then lets suggest a Biggest Winner for thin people to put on weight!:lmao:

I am not a fan of reality shows in general and do not watch biggest looser, survivor, or those other things. Usually when I watch tv (these days) I like it to be no where near reality...escape.

This is not a house, it is a mansion!
It's one thing to give your kids the best, but lets face it, will they ever be able to have the experiences with their own families in the future?? Is TLC setting these kids up for failure? How many families of that size can afford a trip to Hawaii, to go skiiing (staying in a chalet, buying all new ski outfits), nd what about the million $$ house??? I used to be a fan, but get sick to my stomach when I hear the commercial on TLC.

I read that KAte would go speak at churches because she felt led to because she's a Christian, but then at the church they would pass around a "love offering" where people could help contribute to the enormous expense of raising the family.

I wonder what those people are thinking everytime I see the commercial where Kate says, "All mine, as far as I can see."
