OT: It's 3AM Back from seeing "Eclipse"...

Can someone tell a non-twilight series reader if this movie is appropriate for a 12 year old girl? I did not read the book but based on feedback from another mom that has the same guidelines, I let my DD read it. DH is concerned because it's rated PG-13 and movies are more graphic sometimes than books. Is there anything at all graphic (in a sexual way) in the movie? What about language? What about anything gory? Please excuse my ignorance if these are "silly" questions but I want to have as much info as possible before I allow her to go with a friend and see this movie. Thanks!

Not sure about the movie, but if you are letting her read the series then you will absolutely want to read the last book and decide about that one for yourself. It is called breaking dawn. My 10 yr old DD reads voraciously, I told her she could read the first 3 but needed to be older before I would allow her to read the last book of the series.

My son was 10 when he read the books. When he got to Breaking Dawn I asked him if he wanted to read the honeymoon-ish parts or not, he said that he didn't. So, I paper clipped the pages for him to skip and he just read around them.

As far as the movie being appropriate for a 12 year old girl, I'll ask my 7 year old in a few days when I take her to see it.:goodvibes. Honestly, I think it depends more on the child than it does the age. My kids have always been movie friendly, they don't get scared/grossed out. We're big movie nuts and they know movies are not reality and just get into the story telling aspect. So, I have no problem with them going to movies. However, I know my DD has friends that can't be taken to anything other than an animated movie. I think it really depends on the child.

Saw it this morning and loved it. I think it is the best of the series so far. I am glad I went at 10:45am because there were not many people there and no screamers. When I went past that same theater a few hours ago it was jammed packed with lines out the door.

I thought it was funny and that the acting has gotten a lot better. I loved the CGI effects of the wolf pack.

One thing that did bother me was Victoria. I just could not seem to get that it was actually her because of the different actress. It threw it off for me a bit when she was on screen.

I refuse to go to midnight showings anymore. The stupid screaming teens drive me nuts. We missed half of New Moon because the girls would start screaming every time Jacob showed up. Yes, he's hot and looks great with his shirt off. But he can't hear you screaming. Stop it.**Rant over.

We're going in the morning :).

Well, we went and it was awesome. Hardly any teens and no screaming. Personally it was my favorite in the series so far. It was nice to see the other characters developed more. I'd say it did the movie justice.

If you don't want screaming teens you need to choose a theater where you know none will go.

I live in South FL... such a place does not exist down here lol

Made me realize 3 things tho:

1. i hate jacob Disagree
2. they made jacob look like the victim....AGAIN. He is much worse in the book True, he's a huge jerk in the book, but I wouldn't say they made him the victim.
3. bryce howard as victoria is a disgrace. She didnt have that intimating glare, or the voice. Its as if she created a new character which was not the point, you had to tap into what Rachael created. Very much disagree. I liked her better than the original, she played the victim much better.

Dh and I went to the 12am at the drive-in 5 minutes from the house. We left at 20 to 12 and managed to find a spot in the 5th or 6th row! It was *packed*. Police officers directing traffic...crazy. They actually arrested the guy in the booth because he wouldn't open another lane coming into the drive-in. LOL Big happening in a small town, I guess. :rotfl:
The concession line was crazy long. We stood in it for a few minutes then went back to the car. I have never seen so many teenagers in all my life. LOL They were really quiet though. We left the moon roof open in the van and didn't hear any screaming. It was also colder than a...well, it was cold. 49 degrees! It's been in at least the high 80's every day. It was perfect weather for a drive-in movie. I thought it was much better than the first two. Dh went back to the concession when the line died down for cheese fries and milk duds. :lovestruc Felt like a teenager again.

My DD is 11 next week. About "Breaking Dawn", I sat my DD down and let her know that there was some adult content in the book. We have had a discussion about sex and I did let her read the book and we talked about it. There is some mild sex talk in "Eclipse" also and I let her know she could talk to me about it also. I still haven't decided however if she is going to be able to see the "Breaking Dawn" movie. She will be turning 12 when it opens.

It's worth looking into why it was pg 13. I saw it with dd 11.5 and thought it was fine but I have read the books. There is the attempt at sex in this movie but no actual sex but there is a reference and an implied violent sexual act. Langaugae was okay but there was a lot of violence and killing. Not 'humans' but vampires and well humanc too now that I think about it.

But only you can really saybwhatbyou think is appropriate. W have allowed Dd to see pg 13 movies since she was 8 or 9.

Went to see it today and absolutely loved it. It's my favorite movie so far and for the twenty or so people in the theater at an early show, half were kids/teens and they were all very respectful of everyone else.

I waited until the 2nd showing on Thursday...the theater was about three quarters full..the evening shows were already close to selling out at 11:30 am.

I hated New Moon....in print and on film...but I'm older and firmly 'Team Edward'...I hated Full Moon to the point where I wasn't sure if I should waste my money on Eclipse...but I was pleasantly surprised....I liked it slightly better than Twilight..also happy to see more than 5 seconds of the rest of the Cullen clan this time around..I missed them in Full Moon.

I, too, had issues with the our theater. We go because it is less expensive (3.00 for matinee), but was it REALLY worth it? We got there at 3:30 for a 4pm showing. At 4:30, the projector quit working. It took an hour and a half to get it fixed. Movie, IMO was Better than new moon. I plan on adding it to my collection as soon as possible. But back onto theaters...They really need to refurbish the older theater equipment. Ours was Karasotes, but was just bought out by AMC. You would think they would want to fix the older ones.

So I left work early yesterday (boss was out ) and saw the 4:35 showing at the biggest and nicest theater in our area. I paid a couple bucks extra for the XD theater (I think it's extreme digital) and the picture was huge and super sharp. The audio was fantastic too.

All in all, I LOVED Eclipse. I mean, I love all of the movies and honestly don't think I can pick a favorite. There are things I love about each movie. But this one was so good and I can't wait for it to come out on Blu Ray. I also can't wait for Breaking Dawn and to see what they do with it. I hope we don't have to wait long for DVD & Blu Ray but I have a feeling the release will be around Thanksgiving/Christmas.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
2 very enthusiastic thumbs up!
