We have a fenced yard but of course the rabbits can get in under the fence. I'm so sick of them eating all of the flowers in my yard. Is there something *magic* that I can get to keep them from eating my plants?

There is a product called Ropel that you can spray on the foliage. Won't harm the plant, but makes the leaves very bitter and the bunnies won't continue to munch. It is a bit pricey though, and needs to be reapplied after rain.

I've also used red pepper sprinkled on the plants, a cheaper alternative. It still needs to be reapplied, but doesn't cost as much.

Make sure you hit the flowers with Miracle Grow regularly to get them established quickly. Once they reach a good size, the nibbles by the rabbits shouldn't matter.

I also try to use only plants they generally won't eat...impatiens and begonias are two they will leave alone. Some say marigolds, but I've found that if hungry enough they will eat them.

Its gotten to the point in my yard where I plant a patch of 'sacrificial' flowers in the area they love most. They eat there, and leave the other stuff alone.

Last year I bought garlic stakes from www.gardeners.com. You take the stake and can either put it in the ground near your plants or there is a clip and you can clip it onto your plants. I use these specifically for my rose bushes. Some I only need to clip one on and some have 2-3 on them. They last about 6 months. I bought them again this year and so far so good:thumbsup2

If you request a catalog, when you get it they will offer you $6 off of your first visit.

Before I used these clips I had sprinkled garlic powder on my flowers. This works but only until it rains. I have also used deer urine but that makes everything stink really bad.

I use Liquid Fence. It works for deer and rabbits. It needs to be applied every month or so.

Human hair. Anyone getting a haircut soon, bring it home and put it in your garden.

Marigolds- they hate the smell of them. I planted marigolds around my garden and the rabbits have yet to go in...

amp078- I don't know this year our rabbits actually started eating the marigolds...first time we have ever had it happen.

We use a product called liquid fence and spray our garden with it it does smell a little bit, but it works wonders we usually re-apply after a heavy rain and are good to go. We use the deer and rabbit formula and it is environmentally friendly which is nice. This is the blurb from the website:

Spray the plants with a mixture of hot sauce and water. The rabbits aren't going to munch on anything that burns their mouth.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm going to go out there right now with the pepper flakes and garlic powder.

The plants that they are eating are perennials. I'm not much of a gardener so I like to plant it once and not have to worry too much. I did give them some Miracle Grow on Sunday.

The other suggestion that I keep getting is to get another dog. We had ours put to sleep a few years ago after 14 great years. Frankly, I'm not willing for all of the work that another dog will take. Of course my girls would like another but when it comes to picking up the poop, they'll be nowhere to be found.

Thanks!
