OT- How do I get dog urine smell out of my house

Yep, those dogs, especially the males, are all about the attitude! I posted on the CB last weekend about taking Scruffy to someones apartment complex that had a Shih-Tzu mix. My stinker smelled that dog on my jeans (he never saw the dog), and while I was talking to this lady, my dog proceded to lift his leg and pee on my leg, not once, but twice!
nice way of saying.. "time to go mommie" paw: paw: paw: paw: they might not be able to talk but they do make their points known  and only a true dog (or cat) lover can understand them :thumbsup2 no matter how bad they seem to others  you still gotta love them

Budget: Vinegar & water

I have a bottle of Odoban that I bought at Sam's Club and it takes out any nasty smell! We had a potty training accident on my new couch and it took the urine smell out as well as disinfected it. DD vomited the other night on the hallway carpet and took the smell right out. I love this stuff!

We've been using Ododban for YEARS on the ferrets bedding and litter pans and our floors where they have access.

After hurricane Jeanne we took several gallons of it to a friend who had roof damage in Vero and she used it to clean mold off the walls, it worked great for her. It kills just about anything and isn't as harsh on your hands as bleach.

We saw a special on Myth Busters one night about getting skunk smell out of stuff. I figured...well if it can remove skunk smell maybe I'll try it on the dog pee smell. It worked!

Very simple solution, it's a bit of dish liquid (just a few drops), peroxide and baking soda. I add a little bit of warm water too and then soaked the spot and let it set for a while. Then I put a towel on top of the spot and get as much of the mix out as I can. I let it air dry and voila...clean.

They didn't really give a recipe on the show, so I just used a large bottle of peroxide, about a 1/4 cup of baking soda and just a few drops of dawn dish liquid. Then I added maybe 1/2 cup of warm tap water to help dissolve the baking soda.

Ewwww.. That is why I would never let animals live in my house. That is disgusting. If you let your pet live with you indoors, then just get ready to live with their smells and accidents. :confused3

Kids have accidents too. Should they be kept out in the yard as well?

Ya know, the same could be said about having small children too! :confused3

Are you childless by any chance? Accidents happen, small kids, old people, pets, you name it.

We've had luck with Nature's Miracle. Sometimes it takes several applications and total saturation to get all the way to the pad (you may have to lift the carpet and spray the pad and floor underneath).

I WISH we could afford to tile our entire house and I would do it in a heartbeat!!

LOL, I like the reply about not letting them live with you....hmmmm maybe I should put my kids outside too. I have one that has some major stinky feet, he showers daily but his room reeekkks! I'm booting him outside, thanks for the tip :)

All sarcasm aside, kids and animals are just part of our life....we deal with the messes they make because we love them. Not to mention the messes I'd have without my furry kids. They clean up anything I drop on the floor while I'm cooking, and any crumbs the kids drop while they are eating....do you realize how many times that has saved me from having to drag the vacuum out? Just the other day the little one got a cracker that had fallen beside the fridge (between the fridge and cabinet), I could have never reached that with my hand....what a helper! HaHaHa!

I have to second Simple Solution. its an enzyme based solution. Buy a gallon of it. The trick to getting it to work, is to saturate the area, and get down to the pad w/ the simple solution. If you don't pour enough of the simple solution onto the carpet to saturate the pad, then when the stuff dries, the pet smell will still be there. You have to pour enough down to get the pad saturated, so the enzyme stuff will eat away the smell.

Good luck, I tried a million different things before I found this stuff.

Great for cat urine, even after a month or two after I tried a ton of different types of cleaners.

Completely agree with both statements!!!

If you catch the accident fast enough, blot it with a paper towel then sprinkle baking soda on it. Vacuum up the baking soda and then clean it with Natures Miracle.

For older accidents, completely saturate the area with Natures Miracle. Make sure to soak the area so that the solution goes down to the padding in the carpet. Let it dry completely (may take days depening on how big the area is).

I have one cat and two dogs (one dog and one puppy actually) and my house does not smell like urine. It took only two weeks for us to completely housebreak our puppy, but occasionally accidents will happen.

I like Odoban too. A lady I met at Sam's told me that she puts Odoban into the carpet steam cleaner that she uses on her rental houses and that people often comment on how clean it smells.

I used it this fall on brick in the sunroom that had absorbed some kitty urine smell. It still smells good.

I have a female ****zu and she's the best dog I ever had. She's 10 years old and I told her that if she ever has an accident, I'm putting diapers on her...ok, all jokes aside:

I highly recommend soaking it with Natures Miracle. This stuff worked for a cat that I had. To this day, we cannot smell the spot anymore and my husband has a nose for it. I always keep a bottle in the house for any types of smells. I spray it on the couch and everything as a neautralizer. It takes out any kind of smell and I just love it.
