OT Help w/DS wetting through his diaper nightly

We are going through this as well. We have used diaper doublers for a long time, but they unfortunately don't really work anymore. We have used every brand of diaper with and without the doublers and we are constantly getting leaks. UNTIL....we finally started using Huggie's pull-ups nighttimes. As PP's have said, pull-ups aren't as absorbant, but I think that's only true for daytime pull-ups. These have been the answer to the problem for us!!!

The bad news is, we are not getting any extra sleep. DS sleeps the same no matter what! He really doesn't care all that much when he is wet, but I do think it wakes him up sometimes.

Good luck!!!

We change diapers before we go to bed and use the Diaper Doublers. They work great! Our Toys R Us carries them.

I also used Goodnites when my oldest daughter was that age, and she wet theru EVERYTHING EVERYNIGHT! Those things are awesome. They look like big Grannie underpants on, but boy do they work!!!! Good luck!

We had this problem with DD and we have cut off liquids after supper. She wears night-time pull ups and it works fine.

Is the oversoaked diapers a new development? Is he thirsty all the time too?

I don't want to unnecessarily alarm, but a dear friend's DS was about this age when he developed this problem. He happened to be at the ped's for another issue and mom mentioned it. The Dr's ears pricked right up upon hearing this. Her DS got tested immediately and was diagnosed then with juvenile diabetes. Frequent urination and excessive thirst are one of the first signs. And I guess this is a pretty common age for it to rear its head.

I hope that to not be the case with your DS, but I would mention it to the ped to be sure. They can do a quick finger prick to check his sugar level to determine if he needs to have further testing.

I never thought of that. the oversoaked diapers isn't real new I don't think, but now you have me thinking. He drinks milk like it is going out of style not a water drinker at all and really doesn't care for juice either. Maybe I will mention it to the ped which we'll see later this month since he is still not talking more than 20 words - but that is another thread. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Get the diaper doublers!!!!! I had to put two of those things in my son's diaper every night or I would be doing a full load of sheets, pillowcases and mattress pad every morning. NOT how I wanted to wake up everyday!!! :headache:

Dipaer doublers work...try them.

It's not likely that this is a problem for your DS. It's not *that* common, and look at all the responses from folks whose kiddo's don't have jd who were big wetters.

My friend said that in retrospect she should have noticed the thirst. He would chug-a-lug anything she gave him and ask for more. He was her first child though and didn't really know any different. However, this is what came to mind when I read your op. She didn't even think there was a medical problem there, and who knows how long it could have gone untreated and resulting damage if she told herself 'oh its nothing' and didn't mention it to the ped. As it is, she wonders if she could have picked up on it sooner.

I give her and other moms of children with jd a lot of credit. Its a tough life- she checks blood sugars 8 times a day, twice in the middle of each night, so never a full nights sleep; she calculates out exactly how much of anything her DS eats and when everyday and tracks it all in a notebook, and gives him shots of insulin after every meal;she can't work b/c she worries about a caregiver watching for reactions as closely as she does; if he picks up a little stomach bug, he usally ends up in the hospital overnight. I can't imagine living with that constant stress and worry, she's a lot stronger than I am.

Good Luck
