OT- help naming daughter!OT update 98 and now 170!

You could also go the Game of Thrones route and go with Sansa.

Scarlett and Sansa sounds good to me, but then again I'm a very geeky person, so this would appeal probably more to me than anyone else.

I have 3 kids, 2 girls. My oldest daughter is jayme elizabeth (there were SO many jaymes in her grad class, i was surprised) and my youngest is kyana krystene (pronounce key-ana). What i liked about my youngest daughters name is it an old fashioned name dressed up a bit. Good luck in naming (savannah is very pretty)

My kids have friends with beautiful, unique names - Grier, Cecelia, Darby.

Lots of K names around here - on my daughter's soccer team, of 18 girls, there are 3 Kenzie/Makenzies, 2 Katy's and a Kathy. Too many "K"s from the late '90s.

We had a patient at our office with the name Caralynn which I thought was such a pretty name and different. Garth Brook's daughter just named her little girl Karalynn so maybe not so different!
I agree with the spellings and pronounciations and the parent gets angry if you say it wrong!!! Janet is Jay-net and Nielah is Nay-e-lia WHAT???

Ooh, I like Rose from your list. It still goes with the color theme but not obnoxiously. It's a classy name that will sound good at any age. A name everyone is familiar with, but not used overly much.

If you really want them both to be S names, I like Sierra or Summer. But I already tend to trip over calling my daughters the right names, if they both started with the same letter I might be even worse :D

Rose is my favorite!

Congratulations on your new baby

My nephew and his gf are expecting, if it's a girl they are going to name her Ceceila Catherine... I love the combination, it's his grandmothers names put together.

Faith is very pretty. Also love Belle. Like a little southern belle:). Grace. Gracelyn.Savannah.Nova.Laykin.

I like Summer Rose, from your choices listed.

Simple to say and simple to spell are my choices for names. I have an unusual name and it has given me ongoing annoyance throughout my decades. I still have people say to me, after I have spelled my name for them, "don't you mean xxxxx?" As if I can't spell my own name. So maddening.

I gave my kids simple names and never looked back!

I like Savannah Rose from your names :)

I thought of Vivien (or Vivian) - since Vivien Leigh played Scarlett in the movie. I think Scarlett and Vivien sound nice together

While matchy names are cute right now, remember that one day they will be adults and her name will need to stand on its own. My daughter has a friend whose name is Tessie. When you say her name everyone knows who you are talking about because it is unique.

Our daughter is due in October, and we are naming her Isla (pronounced Eye-la). I am hoping the pronunciation won't throw people off too much, but I imagine it'll cause a few problems, lol. I've loved the name for awhile, though, and we waited a super long time for another baby (our son is 15), so we're going with it.

We did consider a few other names - Amelia, Charlotte, Hadley, Lila, Payton, & Caroline. We haven't decided on a middle name yet, but Caroline *might* be our first choice there.

DS is named Tyler, and he was always known by his last name initial in elementary school. There always seemed to be another Tyler in his class. Hopefully our little Isla won't have the same problem. :)

I love Vivien with Scarlett! I also like Juliet. I love Rose (DD's middle name) but then you have 2 shades of red - if that matters.

Congrats! I have only heard the actress with that name, I think it's pretty!

Wow, Congratulations! Our two sons are 10 years apart. Was almost like having two only children sometimes. But what did the late John Lennon say? "Life is what happens when you are making other plans. " We thought we would have 3 kids, 3 years apart!

Yes, congrats! My girls are 13 years apart and adore each other madly. We never expected such a large age gap but everything has turned out perfectly.

OP, of your choices, I like Savannah the best.

You shouldn't have an issue. One of my girls that I babysit on a daily basis is named Eila, with the exact same pronunciation, just spelled differently. Nobody seems to have a whole lot of difficulty with her name, so your little Isla shouldn't have too many issues.

People who know someone will not have difficulty saying their name. Spelling is another story. I still have friends and family that spell my name wrong on cards, table place settings, etc.

The problem is that, going through life, there will be thousands of times she has to spell her name to someone else. I can see an "Isla", pronounced, "I-la" getting a lot of grief. "Are you sure there is an s in your name? It's not Ila?" etc, etc, etc.

I have an unusual name, spelled unusually. It is problematic in that I always have to spell and then respell my name for people. Then it still comes back spelled wrong! I just signed up for electric service and cable. Spelled my name clearly both times, bills come, it's spelled incorrectly both times!

Maybe this won't bother some people, but I honestly wish that I had a common name. It has got to be easier!

My DD is Katy Arianna. I never dreamed there would be so many problems with Katy... Usually, it gets misspelled -- Katie. Or mispronounced as Katty, Kathy (??), etc. I've been asked a few times what it is short for -- nothing. Her name is Katy.

Now, she says she has friends at school who call her Kat. I'm not really upset by it, but isn't Katy short enough? :rotfl:

OP, from your list on post 98, I like Savannah Reese. Good luck picking a name! :thumbsup2

Why do some parents choose to give their child a familiar name with a nonstandard spelling--like Jeenah instead of Gina or Jaisson instead of Jason? What does that accomplish other than frustrating the child (soon to be adult) and anyone that ever has to write down that person's name?

I get being "different" but not when it makes life harder.
