OT- help naming daughter!OT update 98 and now 170!

I have not read all the suggestions but I am kinda partial to the southern names. Savannah Rose is very pretty. I myself am a southern belle (Tara Lynn) can't get more southern than that can you. I always wanted to name my little girl Victoria AnnMarie. Never had a girl so I have 2 boys 12 years apart with 2 different names that aren't too very common around here anyway. Blake and Ethan. My heart strings. Have fun with your new bundle of joy.:cloud9:

The story of my life!!!! and my name is a male name (REALLY DUMB IDEA to give a girl a boy's name, take it from someone who lives it every day). People can meet me, talk to me in person, and still address me as MR. B if they send me something in writing. :confused3 If I had a penny for every person who tried to "correct" the way I misspelled my name on paperwork my Disney fund would be full.

I feel for you  I hate it when people 'correct' the spelling of my name on paperwork, and it happens ALL THE TIME.

My SIL's gave their kids some odd names. I tried to dissuade them, but they have 'normal names' and they don't get it. Good luck to their DSs in school. I really feel bad for the kids.

I like the idea of Scarlett & Juliet together. :)

Rose is a pretty middle name but I wouldn't use it as a first name, personally. Scarlett and Rose together just sound like 2 colors... ? lol.

I just have 1 daughter, and her name is Mikaela Shian. :cutie: (Mih-kay-la ; Shy-ann)

Sometimes you can choose a name, and when the baby is born, he/she won't fit that name! :rotfl: Just warning ya!
It happened with dd#2. She was going to be Kristina.
When she was born, she did not look like a Kristina. So I changed her name which fits her totally and completely!

I like both Savannah and Sierra, and love Rose as a middle name.

We had 2 names picked out for my older daughter. Tessa and Isabel. We were leaning toward Isabel, due to my Hispanic background. Well- she was born with the fairest skin and platinum blonde hair, so we didn't feel that Isabel was right and went with Tessa. :)

Our youngest daughter's name is Scarlett. Her sisters' names are Shelby, Sydney and Sage.

Wow...thanks so much everyone for all your ideas! The funny thing about naming our daughter Scarlett is we had never seen Gone with the Wind, we finally watched it when whe was about 2 years old! We really just loved the name, but I have to admit the movie was amazing too!

At this point we are still undecided. Our top picks currently are Savannah, Sierra, Summer, Layla, Reese, Rose, and Faith. I just want it to be just as different as Scarlett, but not too different and not boring either! Scarlett and Jane just wouldn't be a good match! Any more thoughts on new names or any names we have said? Thanks again everyone!!

I'm giving a vote for Sierra Rose. Not that its my daughter's name or anything..;) but I really do love the name. She get compliments on her name all the time.

My favorite girls name since I was a teenager was Alexa Rae. After Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley's daughter. I have no idea why I never thought about the name with either of my daughters. I still love it to this day.

Well I am just about 39 weeks, so any day now! Of-course we still havent decided on a name!! I really appreciate all your suggestions and thoughts! At this point my husband really likes Savannah and I really like Sierra. He doesn't really like Sierrra, says it sounds too weird! I am trying to sway him, but we will see. I do like Savannah, but am most concerned about people giving her a nickname, which I would not like. Also, it seems very common, which I dont like that either.

Okay, remembering her sisters name is Scarlett Kaya, which name Savannah or Sierra would you choose? We are thinking about Savannah Rose or Sierra Rose, but my husbands neice has rose as her middle name, so now he may be against that! Why are husbands so difficult! What are your thoughts? I elminated Summer because it just doesn't have the same effect as Scarlett and Layla was also eliminated due to being very common! Please help, we dont have much time left! Thanks!

I guess it depends on what part of the country you are in as to how common a particular name is. Here, Savannah is slightly more popular, but Sierra is also seen quite often. DD knows a little girl named Sienna which has a similar feel to Sierra but is more unusual. Also, she has a friend named Sorenna, which I have never seen before, either. I think between your two choices, Sierra goes better with Scarlett. Could you use Layla as a middle name instead of a first name? Just remember what I told my husband when we couldn't agree on names - the hospital always has MOMMY fill out the birth certificate paperwork! Good luck to you. Maybe when you see your sweet girl you'll just know what her name was meant to be.

Does Scarlett get called by any nicknames? I had 2 girls, and both ended up going by shortened versions (Samantha is Sam and Jessica is Jessie). Those 3 syllable names are a bit of a mouthful I guess.

I like Sierra, but you have to please your husband also, maybe when she is born you will just "know"???

I like Scarlett with both Sierra and Savannah. I think that they are both very pretty names. I still think that Savannah might sound a little better with Scarlett but not by much. Since it is just middle names I would continue pushing for Rose.

You have it narrowed down to two, you're doing better than a lot of couples at this point

If you're a planner like me, then this advice might drive you nuts, but maybe just wait until she is here. My brother and SIL had two names picked out for their son (well, actually they didn't know what they were having, so they had two names picked out for each), and the day he was born they looked at him and knew which one fit. Good luck and try to be comfortable! :goodvibes

Just a suggestion with naming a second child... Be sure to say both kids' names together, since you'll probably be using them together a lot! See how they flow when you say "Scarlett and....."

I love the name Scarlett and think it's just different enough. That's what we aimed for. Something that was a little different, unique, but no so far out there that people had trouble pronouncing it. When we named Aidan 13 years ago, it was very uncommon and we loved it! Since then, it's become one of the most popular boys names in America. Guess we were trend setters!

As for nicknames, that's actually what we used with our second son. We loved the name "Eli" and knew that's what we would call him, not Elijah or Elias. So his legal name is Eli. Still haven't heard many of those. But--funny aside--I'm amazed at how many people can't read that name! It never occurred to me at all that anyone would mess that up. But at doctors' offices or anywhere where they're reading his name off a paper, we've had numerous people pronounce it "Ellie" as in a girl's name! Really?????

Some of the girls names we considered were Kyra, Claudia, Gabrielle (Gabby).

LOL - yes!!! Not until after she was born, did anyone realize that saying my firstborn's name and 2nd's together would end up sounding like a nasty little bacteria - Salmonella (Sam and Ella). Oops!!! Too late!

We also made a monogram error with #1 - SOG. We kept this in mind with the 2nd - I wanted Ella Grace, but with a last name that starts with "G", her initials would have been EGG. NOPE!!! I racked my brain trying to find a name I liked were we could still use "Ella" - so she became Gabriella Grace. GGG.

We do have issues every once in a while with people assuming her name is Gabby - a quick little "Oh, she goes by Ella - if you call her Gabby, she won't know you are talking to her!" solves the problem. It's really only happened twice - once in 4 year old preschool with her teacher (DD was too timid to correct her, so all of the kids came out of the class on the first day saying "Bye Gabby!" LOL I talked to the teacher and I never heard the name Gabby again that year - no biggie!)

The other time was this week - her cheerleading coach mistakingly wrote Gabi on the sheet, so the demo coaches kept calling Gabi - and DD has no idea they were talking to her! Again, a quick chat with the coach solved the problem, and she is"Ella" once more LOL

Again, not until well after the fact, did we realize that all three of our kids first initial together spells "SEA" - and that is now I got my screenname :)

Good luck OP!

To vote between Savannah and Sierra, I'd choose Savannah. It has an overall connotation of old-world class and sophistication, and a beautiful little girl wearing gorgeous sundresses with long flowing hair pulled into pigtails at the crown. :lmao:

I'm not sure what nicknames you're concerned about. I guess the name could be shortened to Sav, Savvy, Vanna, Vanny. You'll get used to any of those, even if you don't like them now. My DD's name is Jocelyn and I was deadset against shortening her name to Joce (pronounced Joss) or Jocie (Jossy), but they grew on me very rapidly once others started using them and she responded. ;)

:thumbsup2

I think Scarlett and Savannah compliment eachother so well. Sierra is pretty but (IMO) it just doesnt have the same feel about it and doesnt fit with Scarlett.
If Rose isnt an option for a middle name, I think Grace sounds nice with both of your choices OP.

I have always thought that if I wrote a book the main character's name would be Savannah Layne. I think the two names look pretty especially when written in cursive together.

Congrats on your new baby!

My leftover girl names are:

Shiloh, Shae and Harlow

No more babies for me, but just got a puppy and named her Shiloh.
