OT- help naming daughter!OT update 98 and now 170!

I have a Kathryn Leigh (we called her Katie, now Kate). I always wanted a Katie but wanted to give her a "grown up name" too. My middle daughter is Kennedy Paige, which was unusual when we gave it to her 18 years ago. And my youngest is Karlie Sierra. As you can see, I went with all K's.

Here is the "name test" for a girl that someone once gave me:
1. The name needs to sound appropriate for a High School Cheerleader
2. The name needs to sound appropriate for a Supreme Court Justice
3. The name needs to NOT be a name that would work for a Stripper :rotfl2:

:)

We have the stripper or senator rule in our house, too. We don't add the High School Cheerleader bit.

Just a suggestion with naming a second child... Be sure to say both kids' names together, since you'll probably be using them together a lot! See how they flow when you say "Scarlett and....."

I love the name Scarlett and think it's just different enough. That's what we aimed for. Something that was a little different, unique, but no so far out there that people had trouble pronouncing it. When we named Aidan 13 years ago, it was very uncommon and we loved it! Since then, it's become one of the most popular boys names in America. Guess we were trend setters!

As for nicknames, that's actually what we used with our second son. We loved the name "Eli" and knew that's what we would call him, not Elijah or Elias. So his legal name is Eli. Still haven't heard many of those. But--funny aside--I'm amazed at how many people can't read that name! It never occurred to me at all that anyone would mess that up. But at doctors' offices or anywhere where they're reading his name off a paper, we've had numerous people pronounce it "Ellie" as in a girl's name! Really?????

Some of the girls names we considered were Kyra, Claudia, Gabrielle (Gabby).

My third son we loved the name ELI but wanted it more formal. too many kids are named "Elijah" and when my hubby asked what the "WED"way stood for i told him him Walter Elias Disney. He was floored! however, when it came time for a middle name we couldnt think of one to sound right with it. so Elias became his middle name...so I have one child(of the three i have)that bears the "scarlet letter" of my addiction.... lol

I have 3 daughters. We wanted names that are easy to pronounce and not super common.
Our girls are:
Hallie Elizabeth (Hallie rhymes with Sally. It is NOT Hayley, LOL)
Lucy Skye
Keely Cerise

I love their names. Hope you find the perfect one for you!

My two daughters names are

Elaina Marie Yu (she is adopted from China and I kept part of her Chinese name)
Sophia Nicole

I didn't realise it until 2 years after Sophia was born that with my name, Christine, my oldest Elaina and my youngest Sophia...they make up my full name initlals. CES lol

I don't like theme names for siblings so I wouldn't choose a color name or something that is too obviously associated with Gone with the Wind.

When I was thinking of names with the same vibe as Scarlett, the name Camille popped into my head. I think Scarlett and Camille sound nice together. I know a little girl named Camille and she is sometimes called Cami as a nickname.

Camille is a nice name. However, it's a name not used much in the areas affected by Hurricane Camille in 1969. Still a lot of bad memories lingering from the storm. Much like the name Katrina would be today. No offense to anyone with either name, it's just the reality of the times. I know one child whose middle name is Camille and her family is not from the area.

I agree. I used to live in Buloxi and the gulf is messed up from Camille and will always be. Something with the island not doing the dredging job like it used to?? Deer Island I think. The shore line is a mess and has been since that hurricane.

Well, I was a toddler in 1969 and did not associate the name Camille with a hurricane. Camille was ranked 237 on the Social Security most popular name list for 2012 and is rising in popularity. In naming my girls, I wanted to stay away from names in the top 100. Like I said, I think Scarlett and Camille have a similar vibe but it was just a suggestion. For what it's worth, I also like the name Elise for a sister to Scarlett, as well as Caroline.

I have 2 girls. My first is Olivia Margaret. I loved the name Olivia when I first heard it and Margaret is my grandmother's name. I really wanted her to be Margaret or Maggie, but our goddaughter was born a few months before and her name is Maggie, so we had to come up with something else. Olivia aka Liv is a very popular name, so be warned.

My youngest is Amelia Louise. My husband and I both loved the names Sophie and Grace, but we have family/friend's kids with those names. We chose Amelia because it was an older name like Olivia, but not as popular. Some people shorten the name to Amy, but we have an Amy in our family, so she is Amelia or Meals. Louise is my husband's grandmother's name.

Good luck in choosing and I'm sure you will find the right name.

Congratulations on your upcoming arrival!!

- Monogram... you want to make sure it's nothing that will cause them grief.

Had to smile at this one, age 21 DD was saying yesterday, why did I not think of this? First name, Bridget. Initials, B.M. :confused3 Oh well. She usually uses middle inital too, so it is B.A.M. Which amuses her. :thumbsup2

My DD, the teacher, is expecting her 2nd child in a few weeks. I work at a middle school. Both us assume a child named, oh, let us say, Jasmine, that is spelled, "Jazzmin", you can pretty well deduce that mama didn't go to Harvard. I don't know what my daughter will have or what they will name the child, but I do know it will not be given a cutesy spelling.

I was also BM or BAM (if I used my short name and my first middle name). And as a teen I worked at a nursing home where we charted BM's...

And now I am BS.

So whatever, right?? :lmao:

As far as baby names, I really like the name Violet but would probably relegate it to a middle name. And like another poster said, Scarlett and Violet might be too gimmicky. Both my girls have "nature" middle names (Autumn and Brooke), so if there was another girl, I would use Violet in the middle.

How about Autumn, Summer, Samantha, Calissa?

And I was a baby when Camille hit. As I said, living in the area affected by Camille has influenced my thoughts on the name even though I have no personal memories of the storm. If you haven't lived in the area, then you probably did not hear abt the storm that often.

If we had a girl, she would have been named Katelyn Marie. We have two very beautiful boys so we never had a need for that name!

I wanted to name my daughter Ginger, but my friends and family talked me out of it.

I regret not naming her Ginger.

OP make sure YOU choose the name and once you decide on a name, don't let anyone talk you out of it. :goodvibes

Wow...thanks so much everyone for all your ideas! The funny thing about naming our daughter Scarlett is we had never seen Gone with the Wind, we finally watched it when whe was about 2 years old! We really just loved the name, but I have to admit the movie was amazing too!

At this point we are still undecided. Our top picks currently are Savannah, Sierra, Summer, Layla, Reese, Rose, and Faith. I just want it to be just as different as Scarlett, but not too different and not boring either! Scarlett and Jane just wouldn't be a good match! Any more thoughts on new names or any names we have said? Thanks again everyone!!

Good luck with choosing a name :)

My daughter's name is Bethan (a Welsh name), but she always finds it a pain on holiday in the US as every other person calls her Bethany instead.

When thinking about initials, consider what they may be if she marries in the future. My initials were FAW, my married surname starts with a G !!!

I vote for Savannah Rose :)

I've always loved the name savannah. I think it's unique without being weird.
