My top choice for a girl's name has always been Grace but DH refuses.
Got to be careful with that name!
I really liked Grace too, but my DH said, there is no way we are naming any child of yours Grace. Yep- I'm clumsy. Apparently it is a genetic trait, because DD (7) trips over things including her own feet, spills things, face plants, walks into walls, door frames etc. on a regular basis and always has since she could walk. She definitely takes after me.

( A very common sound in our house since she has been able to talk is "THUD!!!!!!" followed by a little voice saying or yelling "I'm okay".) It is now a family joke that whenever she does one of those things either DH or I say "Thank goodness we didn't name you Grace".

And before anyone says how mean that is, she cracks up laughing everytime we say it because she is fully aware that she and Mom are clumsy.
The main thing for us, was trying to come up with something that was not too unusual, but that she would not have 3 or 5 of in her class. (My niece (10) thinks her name is EmilyR because she has always had at least 1 or 2 other Emily's in her classroom with her. I think there are about 5 or 6 of them just in her grade level at her school, not including those a year older or younger than her). Thought of some others that aren't quite as popular anymore at least in our area:
Abigail (Abby)
Alexandra (Alex or Lexie)
Rebecca (Becca)
Camille (Cami)
Cassandra (Cassie)
Cameryn (Cami)
Claire
Nora
Courtney
Taylor
Zoe
Julia
Gwendolyn (Gwen)
Something to think about is your area too. For examply, when you look at lists, Jayden or Jaden is one of the top 10 most popular boys names in the U.S. In our area, Jaden/Jayden has always been considered a girl's name. We have personally known at least 7 girl Jadens, ranging in age currently from 2 to 20. I've never known a boy named Jaden or Jayden around here. (We have some adult Jays- but is is always a stand alone name or a nickname for James). When I saw Jaden/Jayden on the baby names list as a boy's name, I was really surprised because I had never heard of it being used for a boy. In fact, it would have been one of the potential names that DH and I could have agreed on for DD, but when we found out it was a really popular boys name in most of the country, we took it off our list.
