OT- help naming daughter!OT update 98 and now 170!

I named my daughter Isabelle, but not Isabella because that's over-done around here.

My two favorite characters are Belle and Tinker Bell. But Belle just sounded too prissy and my DH wouldn't go for that. I incorporated that into Isabelle, spelling it that way, (Instead of Isabel) because of the way Belle is spelled.

So, I say Isabelle. I chose Isabelle Catherine after my mom. So many names go with Isabelle....Marie, Rose, Jane, etc.

I love the name Scarlett:goodvibes It was on my short list for our DD but DH said no:confused3

My top choice for a girl's name has always been Grace but DH refuses.

We were torn between Caitlin and Summer for our daughter and choose Caitlin Faith once she was born.

If we ever have another girl DH has agreed to Scarlett this time:thumbsup2
It would most likely be between
Eve or Scarlett

I also like Eden and Lily.

Good luck.. Make sure you come back and update once you decide

Name her Georgiana after the new prince. :)

(Georgie is actually kind of a cute name)

My daughter's name is Aspen Nicole. We get lots of people saying they love it, but I get tired of people asking me if she was conceived there. Um no rude people, she wasn't. She is named for the Aspen tree which is soft and white wood (no my daughter isn't 100% caucasian--she is 1/4 Filipino-I also get told I'm a racist occassionally when I try to explain the wood as it is deifinitely a prominent feature of the tree and help identifies it when you see it), but still strong. Keep in mind no matter what you name your child someone is going to misspell it, mispronounce it, or call him or her by wrong name. We get Austin, Ashton, Aspirin (yes sad to say), etc. Most also think she is a boy even if I've already said my daughter and then give her name. Next thing they say is "he". UGH. Good luck in the name game.

Do you have any favorite book characters? How about movie or tv ones? That's where we got our twins' names from, books.

If you wanted color names you could do
Coral
Ivory
Rose
Jade
Cyan
Emerald
Hazel
Ruby
Olive
Raven
Sapphire
Xanthene
Some of those are better than others. I happen to like Emerald, Hazel and Jade the best of those. Places are good names too such as Savannah, Austin, Raleigh, Charlotte. I personally think Austin is very pretty for a girl's name but I think it works better as a middle name paired with a very feminine first name. For some reason I first thought of Camille to go with Scarlette not sure why. Tallulah is another southern name that is not too common. Of course anything with Ann in it goes well with Scarlett. Of course you also have Lucy, Primrose, Ashley, Ashlyn, and Ashton.

babynamegenie.com that helped us. We put in our last name and a few names we were playing with.

I like color names too. I am partial to Indigo. :lovestruc

My top choice for a girl's name has always been Grace but DH refuses.

Got to be careful with that name!

I really liked Grace too, but my DH said, there is no way we are naming any child of yours Grace. Yep- I'm clumsy. Apparently it is a genetic trait, because DD (7) trips over things including her own feet, spills things, face plants, walks into walls, door frames etc. on a regular basis and always has since she could walk. She definitely takes after me. :rotfl: ( A very common sound in our house since she has been able to talk is "THUD!!!!!!" followed by a little voice saying or yelling "I'm okay".) It is now a family joke that whenever she does one of those things either DH or I say "Thank goodness we didn't name you Grace". ;) And before anyone says how mean that is, she cracks up laughing everytime we say it because she is fully aware that she and Mom are clumsy.

The main thing for us, was trying to come up with something that was not too unusual, but that she would not have 3 or 5 of in her class. (My niece (10) thinks her name is EmilyR because she has always had at least 1 or 2 other Emily's in her classroom with her. I think there are about 5 or 6 of them just in her grade level at her school, not including those a year older or younger than her). Thought of some others that aren't quite as popular anymore at least in our area:

Abigail (Abby)
Alexandra (Alex or Lexie)
Rebecca (Becca)
Camille (Cami)
Cassandra (Cassie)
Cameryn (Cami)
Claire
Nora
Courtney
Taylor
Zoe
Julia
Gwendolyn (Gwen)

Something to think about is your area too. For examply, when you look at lists, Jayden or Jaden is one of the top 10 most popular boys names in the U.S. In our area, Jaden/Jayden has always been considered a girl's name. We have personally known at least 7 girl Jadens, ranging in age currently from 2 to 20. I've never known a boy named Jaden or Jayden around here. (We have some adult Jays- but is is always a stand alone name or a nickname for James). When I saw Jaden/Jayden on the baby names list as a boy's name, I was really surprised because I had never heard of it being used for a boy. In fact, it would have been one of the potential names that DH and I could have agreed on for DD, but when we found out it was a really popular boys name in most of the country, we took it off our list.

Congrats! Some of my favorites are:

Scarlett and Tabitha
Scarlett and Rosalie
Scarlett and Amelia
Scarlett and Annabelle
Scarlett and Callie
Scarlett and Phoebe
Scarlett and Liliana

Addison is popular for a girls name near me. I know 3 people that named their daughters Addison. Two of them know each other but didn't know that they each named their daughter Addison.

Unfortunately, I met a boy named Addison before any of the girls were named and if their parents had met him they would not have chosen Addison. He is that bad, but it's not his fault - he never gets any guidance from his parents.

here are my "rules" when naming a baby

1 -- can not be a family name. I know a lot of people do this, I am even named after my great-grandmother, but I just don't care for it. Just a personal preference

2 -- no unisex names, again just a personal preference. Although I think the name Peyton is cute, I personally wouldn't name my baby that because it has become unisex.

3 -- no odd spelling, example Jessica not Jessyca

4 -- easy to pronounce. You should be able to look at the name and know how to say it, JMO

whatever you decide will be the right one for your daughter. Everyone will have an opinion on it, good or bad, if you like it, then nothing else should matter

Congratulations!

I have all your rules plus one- the name can't rhyme with anything bad. I don't want my kid to get teased for their name. I was called a few things that are not that nice when I was younger because of my name.

I tried out the babynamegenius and the names they gave were not great at least for the last names in our family.

If our second child would have been a girl, he would have either been a Savannah, Madeline or Faith. We were close to tossing Savannah, only because we didn't care for the nickname of Vannah. We didn't mind Maddy and we couldn't think of any nick name for Faith.

We started with the double first name when we found out #1 was a girl. Her name is JennahKay Elaine (loved the name Jennah, Kay from my mom, and Elaine from MIL). Then comes girl #2: Lorahbeth Jillian (DH's idea for Lorah, Beth for my aunt, and Jillian from my sister, Jill). And wouldn't you know it? Baby #3 was a girl! I was starting to run out of names by this point! And I couldn't just give her a name like Emily or something...she would've felt left out! She is AudreyAnn Nichole (I love Audrey Hepburn, Ann from my grandmother, and Nichole from BIL's middle name Nicholas). Then we adopted...a girl from Ethiopia! Her name is Ellagrace Hiwot (loved the name Ella, Grace from another grandmother, and Hiwot is her Ethiopian name).

People usually assume that their first name is actually their first and middle put together, but once they get to know them, it all gets sorted out! I did practice speaking their individual names quickly. It's a lot to have to stumble over! If it didn't flow, we didn't use it. All of the names flow smoothly, even in frustrating moments!

We never did get to use our boy name, Johnathan Neil, after both my dad and FIL.

Congrats and good luck!

Name her Georgiana after the new prince. :)

(Georgie is actually kind of a cute name)

Interestingly enough my great Aunt was named Elizabeth after the Queen; my mom gave me Elizabeth as my middle name after my great Aunt and we used Elizabeth as our daughter's middle name (she has a unique first name).

I personally love unique names with clear/ easy spellings so that people can easily tell how to pronounce them.

For you I was going to throw out two names:

Topaz

and

Tess

Here is the "name test" for a girl that someone once gave me:
1. The name needs to sound appropriate for a High School Cheerleader
2. The name needs to sound appropriate for a Supreme Court Justice
3. The name needs to NOT be a name that would work for a Stripper :rotfl2:

:)

parents.

Here too. That was on our list of 5 and we thought it would probably be DD's name. I'm glad it isn't because even though I love the name, she has 3 friends named Addison.

Samantha is another one that isn't too popular right now. I really liked that one but DH didn't.

We have 3 daughters

Delaney Sunshine
Jylian Danyel
Adyson Journey

The last one was a bit of a fight for me and DH. We chose Adyson in 2005 from Grey's Anatomy but then had a really hard time conceiving plus a miscarriage so by the time she came in 2010 there were a TON of Addisons around. I really wanted Bellamy but DH was adamant that we had chosen name the 5 years before we were going to stick with it. Sigh.
Oh well, she gets a lot of Ady J and Noodlehead so whatev, hahaha!

Our rules were

1) no top 100 names for her first name.... I am Rachel and DH is James we would be out or just halls at school and would hear our name and wonder if they were talking to us. This still occasionally happens to me.

2) no crazy weird names we wanted her teachers to not have trouble with her name in the future

3) Something that could be shortened for a nickname... this one makes me chuckle a little now because we never really use a nickname associated with her name

I have always been a fan of faith hope charity and grace so I had already told dh that one of those would be a middle name and he agreed.

The only name we agreed on was Annabelle Grace. At the time Annabelle was not top 100.

Other names I liked

Lorlei and call her Rory
Amelia call her Mia

Family names I liked but wouldn't use (we have way to many repeat names in our family)
Gwendolyn call her Gwen
Jillian call her Jill
Joyce call her Joy
Penelope call her Penny this is my niece and in her whole elementary school she is the only Penelope/Penny.

I also like the idea of a color name. Rose, Jade, and Violet are my favorites of those.

I don't like theme names for siblings so I wouldn't choose a color name or something that is too obviously associated with Gone with the Wind.

When I was thinking of names with the same vibe as Scarlett, the name Camille popped into my head. I think Scarlett and Camille sound nice together. I know a little girl named Camille and she is sometimes called Cami as a nickname.
