OT- help naming daughter!OT update 98 and now 170!

Evelyn is really pretty, I also like Lily and Gabrella. My daughter's name is Mara, I wanted something that wasn't popular but not too out there.

I'm boring and go with the plain names. Although there aren't too many girls name I like.

Elizabeth
Christine
Valerie

A friend named her DD Savannah. At first I didn't like it but it really goes well with the girl. That might be too much with having a DD Scarlett.

Good luck!

Although I like a lot of "color names" for girls (like Amber, Pearl, Ruby, etc) I think it would sound gimmicky along with Scarlett. That goes for southern "place names" like Georgia and Charlotte which I also like as stand alone names.

My niece, Scarlett, that I mentioned earlier has a sister named Savannah. :rotfl2:

I have 2 boys, Evan and Rowan. Rowan could be a girls name.

Around here, Evan is used as a girl's name too. We know 3 little girl Evans and 2 boy Evans. 4 girls if you count the fact that DD named one of her dolls Evan. ;) I think it is a pretty cute name for a girl, but that may be because I associate it with some pretty cute girls. We haven't seen any girl Rowans yet, but there are Rylan and Rylands.

Like some of the others, I like the name Savannah a lot. I think we only know 1 of those and she is an absolute doll. Looks like people have come up with some really good suggestions. For some that aren't already listed, I also like some of the names that used to be popular that aren't as popular today, so hopefully she won't have 3 in her class, like Lauren, Megan, Michelle, Anna, Sarah etc.

DH and I had a horrible time picking a name because we didn't like the same ones at all (we knew DD's middle name- a family name-but it was her first name we couldn't decide). What we wound up doing was each of us made a list of our 50 top names. Then we compared lists and pulled out all the names that were on both lists-- we only had 5 that matched up. We went to the hospital basically knowing it was going to be one of those 5 names and that we would decide which one once she was born. Funny thing was, the minute we saw her, we both knew her name, and it wasn't the one we thought it was going to be!

We had a hard time coming up with our daughters name. Finally decided on Ashlyn.

We only have one DD and she is Erin Kathleen.

Our next two babies were boys, but if they had been girls, we liked:
Kate (not Katherine, Katelyn, or Kathleen, just Kate)
Keira
Hallie

I have always been fond of Jordan Avery for a girls name :) If we would of had a little girl, that is what she would have been named.

Very pretty. My daughters are Annabelle, Lillian, and Holland. Belle, Lilly, and Holly are their nicknames. :)

I'm fond of your Lillian's nickname :goodvibes My mom's middle name is Lillian ~ we knew our DD would always be Lilly so we went with it ~ she's Lilly, like silly - not L I L Y :hippie: I also know a Holland, I think that's lovely, I also know a Michigan - that I'm not so fond of... I like Ireland as well.

I like Emerson, Caroline, Emiline, Annabelle, Josephine, and Olivia.

That being said our daughter is named Walker Josephine after her grandmothers. We always used family names. She goes by Walker. ;)

I'm always partial to family names. Is, for example, your mother's or grandmother's maiden name an appropriate first or middle name? I have my paternal grandmother's maiden name as my middle name and it has always been so special to me. My first name was after my maternal grandmother.

Our DD is named after her grandparents. Oddly, my mom and DH's mom have the middle name Kay, and my dad and DH's dad (and one of my grandpas) have the middle name Lee. So her first name is Kaylee. Her middle name is Rae after my stepdad's middle name (Ray). Ray/Rae is a middle name in every generation of his family and since I had his first grandchild, I got first dibs. :rotfl2:

DS's middle name is made up of his aunt's and uncle's initials + the letter R. His name is Samuel Braden

B- Bradley
R- (extra)
A- Autumn, Amy
D- Derek, Danielle
E- Emily, Emily (my brother had to marry a girl with the same name as our sister. " The kids literally call them "Aunt Emily #1" and "Aunt Emily #2" :lmao:)
N- Nate

I was going to suggest my daughter's name, Ruby Adele. But then you'd have Ruby and Scarlett. :)

Just a suggestion with naming a second child... Be sure to say both kids' names together, since you'll probably be using them together a lot! See how they flow when you say "Scarlett and....."

I love the name Scarlett and think it's just different enough. That's what we aimed for. Something that was a little different, unique, but no so far out there that people had trouble pronouncing it. When we named Aidan 13 years ago, it was very uncommon and we loved it! Since then, it's become one of the most popular boys names in America. Guess we were trend setters!

As for nicknames, that's actually what we used with our second son. We loved the name "Eli" and knew that's what we would call him, not Elijah or Elias. So his legal name is Eli. Still haven't heard many of those. But--funny aside--I'm amazed at how many people can't read that name! It never occurred to me at all that anyone would mess that up. But at doctors' offices or anywhere where they're reading his name off a paper, we've had numerous people pronounce it "Ellie" as in a girl's name! Really?????

Some of the girls names we considered were Kyra, Claudia, Gabrielle (Gabby).

Thats funny! We have an Elijah and we call him Eli and put that on any paperwork as his preferred name and weve also heard the ellie pronouncment its so crazy how hard it is to people.

As far as girl names we had troubles naming our 2nd girl...mainly bc we didnt expect another baby! Ha! Our first girl is Luci Alicen(spelled in honor of Alice in wonderland but didnt think just alice fit). So for our 2nd we just used a name I always loved but my dh didnt but he came around and so she is Hailey Elizabeth and she has a few nicknames, hailey beth and lizzy beth. Good luck!

All my kids have my maiden name as their middle name.

We gave our younger son my last name (I didn't change it when I married) as his middle name. When he was younger, he felt really important that we did that for him and not our firstborn. (It was really just that we had another middle name that we really liked)

To the pp - Eureka - I see you are from my neck of the woods. :cool1:

Just wanted to say "hi"!!! I hear we are finally getting a break from this awful heat wave today. I say bring on the rain, my grass is looking something terrible.

Hi! Yes, finally it's cooled off a little. Last week was brutal. I say bring on October weather :)

That's very neat, unfortunately I would never give a child my maiden name as a middle name ~ it's Spainho*~*~*~*~ *really not that long but you all don't need to know my name ;), not lovely or even nice sounding. If it was Bailey *my mom's maiden name* or McKell *my dad's mom's maiden name* or Lynn *my mom's mom's maiden name* any of them would be fantastic middle names.

I can't believe that I forgot that the movie didn't show all of Scarlett's pregnancies and births. I had to look up Ella, forgot her, remembered Beau. Thanks for that info!
Anyway, I never had a chance to name a girl either, but my particular hospital had you fill out a potential birth certificate ahead of time with a both a boy and girl name. weird, but I worked there, so I complied. I chose Kara Lynn as the girl name. My mom was Evelyn, and Lynn is my middle name, so I figured I would use Lynn in some way. How about Tara? Scarlett's beloved home. Or Suellen or Careene, her sisters.

I love the name Violet and think it would fit well with your older DD. Something like Violet Louise or Violet Ann.

Everytime I hear the name Violet, I think of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. "Violet, you're turning violet, Violet!" :rotfl: One of my all-time favorite movies. :)
