OT: having trouble getting pregnant with baby #2

I got pregnant right away with dd#1 and then started trying when she was 2 and tried for about 8 months with no luck. I got a great book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It showed me how to chart my cycles and helped me to know what to ask the Dr about. I ended up needing Clomid and it worked on the first cycle. I really recommend the book for every women, not just those trying to conceive. Good luck-I'm all for being pro-active with this issue.

i was just about to rec this book as well. I have not read it, but have heard good things about it from several people

thanks everyone. you guys are helping... Dr told me to relax and "what happens happens" so we will see.

DD asks for a baby everyday... that doesnt help! :lmao:

Our DD asks for a baby sister or brother on a regular basis too. It's heartwrenching. Especially when she would do it after the miscarriage. She never knew I was pregnant so she had no way of knowing how much it hurt. Her 6th birthday is Sunday which was my due date too.....I'm just glad I have a child to celebrate or what's going to be a difficult day as it is would be unbearable.

I have the same problem. Fell pregnant with dd 3.5 after 5 months but have now been trying for number 2 for about 11 months. I think it maybe my age (I am now 40) and I am realistic that becoming pregnant after 40 is more difficult but it doesn't make it any easier to accept. I get quite cross at my body as I don't feel 40 and I am annoyed that it isn't doing what it should be doing (especially since I have done it once without any trouble)!!!!

Oh yes. I'm going through it right now, we've been TTC #2 for almost 2 years now. I'm ready to jump off a bridge. (figuratively, of course.) I'm trying to schedule my laprascopy, but my RE's office isn't calling me back. ::sigh:: I've been on birth control pills (ugh) for a month now because my RE wants me to take them before the surgery.

Have you been going to a regular OBGYN, and have you seen a reproductive endocrinologist yet? I think it's VERY worth it, frustrating but worth it. Have you been charting your BBT, and all that fun stuff?

Come on over to the TTC thread and hopefully your stay will be short.

I have two living children and have had two miscarriages that have ripped our hearts out. I am currently 21 weeks pregnant with a little girl :)

"Relaxing" does nothing as far as I am concerned. If there is an issue it is best you find out sooner rather than later. Just sayin' because to get the doctor ball rolling takes time.

Six months isn't bad at all...for people your age I think they say to try for a year. I am older and my doctor gave me six months and referred me at four months so that we could deal with issues if there were any. It took me four months to get a specialist appointment.

Like I told my brother and a dear, dear friend... quit stressing and let it happen!

DBro and SIL gave up and decided on adoption and BOOM! They got pregnant.

My friend and her hubby "took a break" from trying and wound up pregnant.

I got preggo easy with #1, miscarried #2, and almost lost #3 (stupid low progestrone levels...). #2 and #3 came waaaaaaaay later than we had hoped for but we couldn't be happier with who we got. We were meant to have the two that we have.

I totally agree... I started the whole process in late August and I'm still not at the "treatment" part yet, still "diagnostic." It really does take awhile to get started, and you're better off knowing if something is wrong. Sure your OBGYN might possibly give you clomid, but if there's something else going on like a fibroid, adhesions, endometriosis or a blocked tube, clomid isn't going to do you any good... nor will relaxing. I had no idea I had endometriosis!

Honestly, I wish "relaxing" was all that was needed! HA! I have PCOS and my DH has a low sperm count, relaxing isn't going to help me ovulate or get the sperm count up ;) We have a 5 year old and have been TTC #2 for what seems like forever now :( We're on a break right now and hopefully we'll get restarted in December after our Disney trip. We've most recently done 2 IUI's, one with clomid(had 2 follicles) and 1 with femara(only 1 follicle) and BFN both times.

I rec'd going to see someone as well, though they may not doing anything till a year. Good luck!

With #1 and #2 I had no problems. I think it took about 4 months with each. My youngest is 6. I was 31 when I had him. DH and I decided to start trying for #3 this past January. I was on the patch after #2. After 6 months of trying I went on Clomid 50mg, 100mg, and then 150mg because I wasn't ovulating. My second month on Clomid I ovulated, but no pregnancy so the Dr upped me to the 150mg. That was in June.

According to my regular OB/GYN there is nothing more that she can do for me so they referred me to a Fertility Specialist. We go Thursday for our initial. I can't wait to find out what's going on!

Good luck to you! I know how you feel... I'm dying to see what/if they find anything during the surgery. The HSG and Sono have come out good... sort of, they found a "chocolate cyst" on my ovary, which explains my lack of ovulation. I guess we'll see!
