Some great ideas!
I walked thru Michaels the other day...tryin to see if there were things I could find to make and resell on Ebay... Their fees are getting so high tho...you have to watch profit margin...

I want to eventually be a SAHM...I go back to work Monday from my maternity leave...and would love to be able to at least scale back to PT one day soon...

Keep your eyes peeled for their 40 and 50% off coupons. They can bring some items down to a reasonable price in a hurry. They have also started this new thing where you get a 20% off coupon on your receipt for your next visit. It is good for one regular priced item. Watch their sale flyers too for things you know you would use and stock up then. Joanne's has gotten really good with their craft stuff too, and they always have a flyer of coupons at their registers that are good for the next week.

I also sell lia sophia!!
That is how I'm paying for our 12 day trip to Disney!!!

I looked into the selling baked goods thing last night. There are some things you can sell in PA from a home kitchen. But then I thought about it, and you'd have to sell a lot to make any kind of profit. SO that's worth thinking about.

* Watch kids. Either full time or before/after school or just on holidays/summer break, or even 3rd shift if you are up to it.
This is a great idea. My ds's are 11 and almost 8 and I work FT. There are summer camps they can go to but they are very expensive and my kids really aren't that crazy about them. Most are all outdoors, even when it's a muggy 99 deg. Also camp is very busy with scheduled activities all day so it's good for kids to have some down-time in a home environment. kwim? I wouldn't want them to just veg all summer but it's nice to have a little rest some days.
It's good to get a little of both.

* I know some people who are medical transcriptionists, but that requires decent computer skills.
Don't count on this too much longer. I work in radiology and for years we've had a voice-recognition program for our radiologists to dictate on. As they dictate each case, the report is displayed on their computer and when they're done, they just sign off that it's final and the report is automatically sent to the referring physician. Don't know what happened to all of our transriptionists as they were in a separate building from us and never see them.

What do you think of this idea? My mom works in a doctor's office with a lot of seniors as patients who no longer drive. She is finding that when these patients use the existing services for getting them to the doctor they have problems getting picked up again if their appointment runs over or the doctor is late. She has had patients have to wait for an hour for someone to come back for them. What about a service where I would pick them up and stay with them at the doctor, or wherever the appointment may be, and take them home? I could take them to get perscriptions, grocery shopping whatever, but it would be strictly for seniors. I keep thinking about this idea, but there are 2 issues I see, the fee and gas prices. So many seniors are on a fixed income so what would be a reasonable price that would cover the high cost of gas and not be to much for them to afford, but still make me money? I am also very petite, so I don't know how I would handle someone in a wheelchair, and I couldn't legally refuse to take them because of this.

Any thoughts or suggestions. I always enjoy working with seniors because they have so much to say and you learn so much from them. I also hate how many of them have no one to turn to for things like this and can so easily be taken advantage of. Is this a good idea?

This is a great idea though I'm sorry I can't answer your questions about the logistics of it all. I have a 91 y.o. dgm. My mom or sister takes her to her appointments but I can't imagine all elderly people have family nearby to take them to everything. I would consult with an attorney too. What if someone falls while trying to get out of your car? Not trying to scare you off but just looking at all angles like the wheelchair issue. :confused3
Talk to the physicians in your area and see what they think. Maybe they could give out your cards where they see a need.

Good point. That hadn't even crossed my mind! That is obviously a real risk when you are dealing with seniors.

I am a pretty decent cook and baker, my son says I am an excellent baker.

My sister likes to bake, and she just started selling brownies, rum cake and carrot cake to her local hair salons and Deli stores. She just went into a store that she wanted to sell at and gave them a few samples to try and asked them to call her if they would be interested in selling them at there store. And some of them did, the way she packages them she put her name and phone number on each individual piece and just the week she got a individual order for 2 whole rum cakes. Then extra income really helps them out. Good luck

There was another thread on this a long time ago. Some people suggested Alpine access but you do need some computer skills for that. Others suggested taking surveys, there were certain legitimate sites that would pay you to take surveys. Good luck with everything!

Has she had to do anything special in terms of selling them in local delis? I am wondering if you are dealing with restaurants if you have to have the state health board check out your kitchen or not. I am sure every state is different but I am not sure what those requirements might be.

Since the question was asked, I will answer.

I'm a consultant for Heritage Makers. We are an online digital publishing company. It's a web-based system. You have an account and are able to store your photos online, create beautiful books, and preserve your memories. We are new, just over 2 years old. There are some areas virtually unrepresented. I have been with them for almost 3 years. I absolutely love this company. I have such a passion for helping people share their stories.

The beauty of the business is it's very flexible. You can do workshops from your house, you can do one on ones at a coffee shop, you can do virtual workshops, you can do home parties (we call them Celebrations). The best new thing though will be Scanning Parties.

My website is www.MyLegacyMaker.com. Please feel free to check it out and ask any questions.

This sounds interesting, but I am not so great with the computer :surfweb: . So with that being said would it require a lot of computer knowledge?

If you can Dis, you can HM ;).

That is really all it requires, you using your mouse. I would be happy to do a virtual demo for you. All you'd have to do is be on your computer and phone, I'd walk you through the rest.

I know she doesn't have any license, and noone came to inspect her kicthen. I guess it would be up to the store you are selling at. I do know she has to lists all the ingredients on the package. ex; for her brownies she puts brownie mix eggs oil nuts. She individaully seals each piece in a cellaphane bag then she puts the sticker on front of the piece of cake with ingrdients and her name and phone number. the 2 hair salons and 1 deli she sells to are just small places, no big restaurants. If you would like more info just pm me and I will ask her any questions I don't know.
