Does anyone have a suggestion for a great fun filled family vacation spot other than Disney? We are going to Disney in 2 weeks and we're looking for a good vacation spot for this summer. Whats out there?? We have children ages 3,5,6,and 11. Thanks for any input!

We have enjoyed driving to Colorado and hiking in the mountains. Kids were 3 and a half and 3 months old (back pack worked great).

We had a fun vacation once in Las Vegas when the kids were 6 and 9. Great value on hotel and all the buffets are incredible. It was easy to walk or take the trolly. The airport seemed like it was only about 5 minutes from out hotel (Excalibur). We enjoyed seeing all the spectacular hotels and attractions, the fountains at the Bellagio, etc. We drove to the mountains and hiked one day, went to the desert one day, toured Hoover dam one day and did a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. We were hugely surprised that there was so much for a family to do.

South Dakota was another surprisingly enjoyable family vacation. We stopped at Wall Drug and the Corn Palace along the way from Illinois and both were kind of cool. We stayed near Keystone and enjoyed Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands and the Black Hills. Enjoyed it all. The kids were 9 and 11.

Our favorite spot for a 100% totally relaxing vacation is on the beach at St. George Island, Florida (on the panhandle). We rent a condo at 300 Ocean Mile right on the beach. Out one door is ocean and out the other door is the pool, no huge tourist trap stuff going on. A national park is right beside us at the end of the island. Biggest decisions to make are which level sunscreen to apply in the morning and where we go out for dinner each night. Appalachicola is nearby with some nice shops. It is a very family oriented spot, not a place where college kids hang out.

We have tried Panama City Beach (too crowded, too touristy), same thing with Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. We liked the hiking there, it's just too crowded.

We are hoping to visit Washington D.C. this summer, our kids will be 12 and 15.

Shorter trips that were fun; Door County and Wisconsin Dells in Wisconsin. At the Dells we stayed at the Kalahari Resort which has a huge water park. Had a blast.

Great Ideas!!

Our favorite spot to travel as a family..besideds disney is San Fransisco. We have one dd..age 3.5, and there is so much to do as a family there. Lots of great Photo Ops! We toured San Fransisco in 3 days, (slow paced tour) and then drove up to Wine Country (Napa) for the day. BEAUTIFUL! And dd really enjoyed looking at the "grapes". And testing grape juice at every Vineyard along the way! We also made a day to drive to the rugged coast of Northern California. Desserted beaches, and rocky coastline! What a sight, we could spread out a blanket and just let dd run, NO ONE WAS AROUND! I thought it was amazing. Can't wait to go back. Our heart has been divided btwn Disney and San Fransisco ever since!

Have fun whatever you decide!!

We went to niagara Falls with a 11 year old and she loved it. There is a funky little cheap amusment park disdrict called Clifton Hills. It has like Ripleys 4-D theater, and tons of fun houses too! And the falls are something everyone can enjoy and remember forever

We like Reno/Lake Tahoe and have visited 2X with adults and are planning on taking our will be 6 & 7 year olds next year.

Niagara Falls-planning on taking the kids this winter

Las Vegas-with visits to Grand Canyon and Lake Meade

Good old fashion camping at state parks

Hi again.
I just wanted to add onto the Niagara Falls thing, we live about 4 miles outside of Niagara Falls, and its beautiful!! We love going down at night and wandering around, when the park and streets are fairly empty but the falls are lit up in a rainbow of colors. Our daughter 3.5 is in awe of this! Clifton Hill is fun, but remember that is on the Canadian side of the falls, so you will need the proper documentation. On the States side..There is also a Six Flags nearby, which is lots of fun. And a small Aquarium. And quite a few budget hotels around the area. It's great fun for a family!

We had a great week at Williamsburg, VA.
Williamsburg

If you are looking for a great beach, I highly recommend Gulf Shores, Alabama....it is a beautiful beach and not as touristy or crowded and is more family oriented.
Gulf Shores

We really enjoyed Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming) and Mammoth Cave (Kentucky). San Antonio is a great city to visit, as is Colorado Springs.

We also love southern Maine-York Beach, Wells, Ogunquit...
Ogunquit is esp. fun as you can walk or take the trolley to basically anywhere around the town! :flower:

On the off year that we're not going to Disney we like to go to Myrtle Beach, SC. There is everything in the world to do there, 2 amusements parks, water parks, shopping, and great dining. We love it there (although not as much as Disney) :rotfl:
