We are a Florida family and all we ever do for vacation is go to Disney or on a cruise (the beach isn't a vacation for us, because we pretty much live right there). Now that DD is a little older, it's time to venture out.
Neither DD nor DH has ever seen snow, so we want to do a winter vacation (on a budget, if that's possible), sometime in January after the New Years holiday. This trip will be our Christmas present to each other (except for Santa for DD of course!).
What would you suggest? Here's a little background. I'm the only one that can ski and I'd like to do a little. DD will be 5, is not very coordinated, but will try anything. She MIGHT spend a little time in a kids program, but we'd rather spend time with her. DH will try skiing, will probably refuse any lessons (so I will spend the whole time helping him up) but he will love to tube and snow mobile, he also likes to do light gambling (was thinking maybe Tahoe?). My mom will also be going, she won't be skiing, but she will be happy just hanging out or shopping.
Something close (within an hours drive or so) to the airport is a must as DD gets carsick.
I've been looking at the Smugglers Notch website and it looks good, but I've only skied out west and have heard bad things about east coast skiing.
Also, the warmest clothing we have are jeans and light jackets so any advice on where to get cheap ski (or at least warm) clothing would be appreciated.
Tell me all about your family's trips!
