I had my DVR record the pilot and just watched it last night. I'm really interested to see how the story with Max is shown...

I watched it. I too am interested to see how it plays out with Max. As dh and I were watching it we were flooded with memories of when we found out that are second daughter had sensory processing disorder

I didn't see it, but after seeing your post, I checked and they're replaying it at 8 pm tonight (I think it's CBS). Thanks for the heads up!!

It's NBC (just so no one misses it by looking in the wrong spot).:thumbsup2

I was busy at the time it was on, so only saw bits and pieces. It seemed like the Max story will turn into an interesting storyline.

I had DVRd it and watched it last night. I cried at the part where the mom was trying to explain it to her husband, I felt it was done very well. I'll be interested to see how it plays out too.

Wow, will I be watching. I know several other kids with ASD, some severe, some higher functioning. The thing that struck me with Max was his anxiety level. The higher functioning kids i know have off-the-charts anxiety. I always wonder if they know how differnet they are, and that creates the anxiety, or a combination of other things? Our dd also has speech, gross motor and motor planning delays, so I was sort of envious of Max, in a weird way. BTW, I did think they did a great job.

I really could relate when the mother was telling the father what they thought was wrong with Max - DS was diagnosed with AD/HD about a year ago now.

In a weird way, I hope this show can portray the struggles of parents with special needs kids....

I just watched it online. Wow!
I think the writers did an impressive job representing the spectrum with Max's character. They showed how easily behaviors can be dismissed as personality quirks in some children. It really hit home! I can not wait to see the storyline play out.
I had to reset the preference order on my DVR to pick it up so it better be worth it!

What are your thoughts? I'm digging it.
The doctor telling Max's parents there is no "cure" for autism made me happy and hopeful. It looks like the writers chose not to follow the sterotypical Hollywood stance on cures.... so far, at least.
Also, I read Jason Katims has an Aspie child.

I thought it was very well done except for the part where they visited "friends" who have a son with Aspergers. I thought that part was ridiculous and could have been done much better. The part with Dr. Pelikan was great, I liked that he said to focus on the positives and Max's strengths and that there is no cure. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.

With some tweaking Max could be my DD. She was had to wear bunny ears and a tail for over a year. It drove DH crazy!! I too am wondering how it is going to play out. I thought that the writers did a good job. I found the scene when the mom was saying that there is something wrong with their baby and don't leave her alone to deal with it eerily familiar. I think I've had a similar conversation with DH.

Anyone else still watching this?

I'm so jealous of Gaby. Wish we had a Gaby when DD was Max's age. Interesting though that Gaby's technique with Max is all about bribery. I used that technique all the time with DD because it worked, but I always felt a little guilty.

Yep, still watching and loving it.

It's funny, I was thinking when I watched the recent episodes that I wish I had a Gaby for DS too! Also, I think there is a fine line between incentives/rewards and bribery. ;) We definitely use rewards for DS because they are so effective.

Gotta say the 1 thing that bothered me about the whole Max story line was the "jumping" of the waiting list! I wish a little talking to the person in charge would have moved me up the wait list but it didn't. I guess what I was more concerned with was that parents would think that they would actually be able to do that in real life.

Still watching here.
I have a problem with Gaby! Not the character but hitting on her immediately. In real life you are lucky to ever find a Gaby (I haven't!).... this quick fix really bothered me because now you have people thinking it's that easy. Jumping the school wait list was silly enough but then they got the golden helper without having to weed through wackos or burn outs.... yeah right!
