I always send my kids off to school with hugs and kisses and an "I love you"...
but after this week, in our hurried lives, it was a moment that was really felt, not just going through the motions.
Life is precious... :)

Yes after watching the news last night :sad2: I think there were 4 stories about school shootings. I might have to consider Homeschool at some point. I was against this idea for my kids but have to reconsider now. DD is 6 and in first grade. After seeing this can happen in Lancaster, PA at and Amish school then it can happen anywhere. Your right life is precious! :goodvibes

Actually, my kids came up and gave ME several hugs and kisses and lots of "I Love you's" before school today. I always do it anyway, but they beat me to it today! It really is a shame that people have to do crazy things, and you are right. Life is too short and precious to not tell your loved ones how much they mean to you! My grandmother passed away a few months ago and after experiencing the death of a relative I was extremely close with, I have tried to spend as much time with my kids and DH as I can. Life goes so quickly, in the blink of an eye! Enjoy every moment!!!

This is making me beyond sick. How can such sickness go on in our society? They are now saying he was a pedophile at some point and had similar intentions. How can we as a society allow such victimization of our children go on? This is the second "sexual" related crime in a week. We were just in Amish Country last weekend and loving it. The people were so friendly. My children played with several amish children. I know there is no answer to why? But is there an answer to how we can stop this? How as mothers and fathers we can say enough is enough?? Time to stand up for the smallest members of our society. The ones that we are here to protect. Change the Laws! Write letters to change pedophelia punishments in your state. I do. Our laws have slowly changed in our state. I will keep writing. Prayers to the families of those young young girls.

Tearfully you will find my answer over on the community board... A Heartbreaking reminder to hug your kids today.

Miss you already Lucas!!!!!! :sad2:

It is so terribly sad. I only live about 30 mins away from where it happened and that is all anyone has talked about today. It's awful that it happened period, but to happen to the Amish is just...undescribeable. We really revere our Amish out here and hold them in high regard, they have such strong faith and keep to themselves. Why anyone would want to hurt them is beyond me. The news stated that the victim's families have forgiven the shooter and hold no anger towards him. I don't think I could do that. I am not a religious person, but I pray for the victims and their families. I also pray for the shooter's family who had no idea that he could be a killer. So sad.
I hugged my daughter and my DH extra tight this morning and cried on my way to work.

I was really glad that when we arrived at school 10 minutes late...the door was locked! We had to ring the bell and the principal answered the door. This has always been standard procedure. She stands at the door in the morning to welcome the students (shakes their hands) and to monitor who is entering the building. Then the doors are locked when school begins. I always thought this was a bit over the top in our rural little town IN THE MIDDLE OF AMISH COUNTRY in Wayne County, Ohio. However, I guess it isn't....and I'm glad these policies are already in place.

I used to teach in NYC and every so often we would have an intruder in the building (Code Red Riding Hood). We just had to lock our doors and move students away from interior windows. Usually the intruders turned out to be harmless, but one never knows. I often wondered how I could "hide" my first graders in the room so that we wouldn't call attention to ourselves.

Now it is my own dd, I worry about. I can't imagine how those parents must feel...and in a community that seemed so safe and peaceful. It is really, really scary!

:wave2: Just wanted to say hi emma's mom from your neighbor in Medina County. Our schools too are locked and you have to be buzzed in. They have a camera so the office staff can see who is at the door before they let you in. My sons daycare is this way too and I"m so thankful for it after this past week.

HI Runwad-

It is nice to know that I'm not the only one from Northeast Ohio who likes to escape the Ohio snowy winters! Yeah for Airtran from the Canton-Akron airport!
