Anyone dealing with TS? Any info or advice?

Hi, this has been a rough week! DFIL (91) is in ICU and had to have 2 surgeries to remove large intestines. I ended up in the ER at the same hospital with a VERY elevated heart rate (230+), only to have a cardiologist tell me I need surgery (I got a second opinion)!

Then today, took DD13 to a highly recommended neurologist (referred by our pediatrician), to find out why she has been exhibiting physical tics, that have been ongoing for 6-8 months. Well, I feel that we were totally blown off and was told that our self-confident, self-assured DD13 has anxiety and needs pyschiatric couseling. There WILL be a second opinion!

I am so frustrated! One DR wants to jump the gun and another one just passed the buck. DD13 is a Type 1 diabetic and she has school issues, that I have had to fight tooth and nail to get her taken care of.

I feel that we are great parents that truly want what is best for our kids, but how can we get around those people and systems that hinder that? I have never faced these issues before. I respect doctors and the job that they do, but this is driving me nuts!

Venting over!

I'm sorry that you felt brushed off by your doctor.

Does she have a vocal tic? I was under the impression (and I could be wrong) that it to be considered tourette's the patient had to have at least a vocal tic along with motor tics.

My son motor tics, he has had them since he was 3. Depending on how stressed or overstimulated he is, his tics can get very complex and noticeable.

I would read up on tics if you can. In our situation keeping our son in calm situations and watching his diet has helped.

Its hard. I hope you find some answers soon.

my son was dx when he was about 7. It started with eye twitching ,mouth movments, some throat clearing. he did take meds for 10yrs, We did notice that when he was nervous it got worse,But when he was relaxed you could hardly notice. Hes 20 now and it seemed to go away. His 2uncles had tourettes. I was told it was more common in boys then girls. I did take him to a ped neurologist for his ADD but the dr picked up on his tourettes. I would yell at him for making the noises and movements be for he was dianogsed. poor guy:( .
