OT- Cradle Cap?

DD4 still has some cradle cap and we've found it really is her shampoo -- something about the pH in the typical baby shampoos that exaccerbates things. We switched the Paul Mitchell baby shampoo and it virtually disappeared and is a lot less harsh on fine baby hair than an adult dandruff shampoo. The price of the Paul Mitchell is worth it -- I'll never put that oil in her hair again, what a mess!

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. I don't think DS's problem is related to eczema or anything because we have no problem with the rest of his skin. His cheeks sometimes get a little chapped but I think that's normal. We do have a check up on Monday so I will mention it to his Dr. just in case.

I'd like to try a dandruff shampoo but he resists getting his hair washed so bad, I'm really scared I'll get it in his eyes.

He does have enough hair to cover it but I have to do something about it because I find it has a funky smell. :sad2:

My DS had some cradle cap, then some excema on his cheeks. Turned out, it's related to food allergies - started up at 6 weeks. His are really bad, and if you need some info, PS me - he sees the top pediatric allergist in the US at Johns Hopkins now (when he was diagnosed we lived in Hawaii, and it was an Army hospital).

Seriously, the cheeks chapping is a serious sign of an allergy - please have this checked out! My DS had anaphlaxis at 9 months. God Bless.

My DD (now 8) had horrible craddle cap from a few weeks old. We now know that it is not craddle cap or dandruff but psoriasis. Apparently it is quite common for the scalp to be affected. I highly suggest mentioning it to your physician. If they tell you it is nothing and your mother's intuituion (a funky smell is NOT indicative of craddle cap) is telling you it is not nothing I suggest keeping a journal for a while. Make sure to include pictures and other details like the weather, his diet, what and when you washed his hair with. I found that once I presented facts on paper to my Doctor I finally got the respect and attention that I felt this matter deserved.

Hi, my 18 month DS has the same problem. Only on his head. Both sides of this head has open spots and secretes fluid, thank goodness not blood. But sticky clear fluid, no smell. Shaving his head also helped him a little bit. But he constantly scratches his head even at night. He still has cradle cap mostly on top of his head and using Selsun Blue as per my Pedia has helped. But I have to use this everyday or the flakes come back. Pedia said its not psoriasis nor ezcema because its "only" on his head. :confused3

I really want to try dermasmooth but unsure, this might be too strong for him. Please let me know what your Dr. says.

When I was in the hospital with my first baby, the nurse said to use head and shoulders. We used it a few times, and cradle cap was gone. Just be careful of there eyes. We have since used it with all three of our girls when needed.

Ditto.
