OT - cleaning cheering pom-poms

My dds started cheering & they re-use the pom-pom's - we just got our set last night & they are kind of dirty/icky. any idea on how to clean them or sanitize them without disintegrating the plastic? thanks for any ideas!

pom pons or soo delicate that i wouldn't risk them breaking by washing them. They will get dirty over time...I'd suggest either lightly washing with water or just try shaking them dry. I google searched and there was no ideas either.

I am going to try washing them - the handles just seem so skeevy since who knows how many other girls have used them & they are all brown/gray from usage. There is an elastic that hangs off & that has stains on it. The pom poms themselves I am not too concerned with - it is the handles that my girls will be holding that I am looking at.

We put some dish soap in the tub or sink, using warm water, and put them in and swished them around...
Worked great!

Make sure that you run a second sink-full of plain water to rinse them thoroughly...Take them outside and shake them out, then hang them to dry.

Last year when I got the box of pom poms from the years previous coach they smelled like mildew and were filthy. I decided to fill my wash basin with warm water and and some Tide and I simply swished them around in there for a few minutes then took them outside and shook them off. I hung them on the line outside out of the sun till they dried. It worked wonders.

Seconded the swishing in a bucket of water. For the handles if they are plastic you could go over them with a magic eraser and it'll lift up some of the ingrain dirt.
