If the housing market continues to slide you could buy a castle :lmao:

Were just lucky at how low the cost of buying houses is up here. We have bought in an up and coming area (fingers crossed!). My poor London friends are in shock when they see what we managed to buy - although there managing to, I think like everywhere you just have to look around and be flexible. We wouldnt have picked the area we live in ideally but now we love it and I am glad we did :) .

Indeedy Rowton castle will be mine

Yeah I guess so.... thats a problem we have, as we both work in the town we live in atm so moving away would be wouldnt be our choice really unless we moved jobs

Where do you live Faye?

Prices here are awful! We wont get a 2 bed flat for under £200k :(

Hence the 2 years of saving!

OMG, rowton castle was my 1st choice UK wedding location!

Sadly I got addicted to the DIS and lured to the wedding board and all that has changed!

Afternoon all.

We bought in an up and coming area 10 years ago and we are so glad that we did. House prices here haven't fallen much and aparently it is now one of the top places in the UK to buy right now (the new station means we are communer distance from London within an hour). We are lucky that our town centre is being totally rebuilt, new shopping centre opened last year, new international swimming pool with gym facitities, fun pool with slide, international diving boards etc is opening in the summer and a new library, theatre and arts complex is being built too to open in 2010. Ater that they are planning to knock down the rest of the town centre built in the 1970's and rebuild all that.

Mine is a similar sort of thing - new town centre, lots of new houses, the park across the road was transformed back into a victorian park etc. Plus I work on the projects surrounding my house so I have insider knowledge :rolleyes1 . Plus were on 10mins away from Newcastle city centre which is brilliant and we have the metro around the corner (our version of the tube). We monitor house prices for work purposes and its ok round here, but I think its newly built apartment blocks that are falling in prices not houses (unless you are really desperate to sell).

Prices around here are about 120k for a 2bed flat.... 200k is

I live in Shropshire, in a town just north of where Rowton Castle is....:goodvibes

One of my friends bought a brand new studio apartment across the road from borough tube station in london - its a shared ownership flat and to buy it outright was £220,000 :scared1: she bought a 40% share and pays rent on the remaining 60%, adding in the £200 service charges and council tax zone d her outgoings are £1000 a month for a little studio flat - that is scary!

Gosh thats bad!      I'm so glad I never want to live somewhere like London

Yeah, its pretty high prices, we're over £1200 a month for a 2 bed flat.

It's lush though, and will get us in the habit for mortgage repayments. Just makes you feel bad about spending any extra money!

I feel a bit guilty about the cost of my engagement ring, but its going to be with me forever, so if you divide the price up over a few years its not so bad, lol.

But then i feel really guilty and spoiled thinking like that! He could have a plan a million times better........not that i can think of one, lol!

Hi giys, I'm having a nice lazy time off work too! I should be doing some planning, but that can wait until later, I'm not in the mood right now!!

Yeah, he'll buy it while im there, but i am not allowed to wear it or see it after then.

I am very fussy with jewellery :( My mums fault, but he leanrt the hard way about buying me surpirse jewellery.

He'll do amazing with proposing, but he knows how much fun i would (or am) have choosing the ring that he wouldnt want me to not have that I think.

Like he wouldnt dare surprise a holiday on me! hahaha. For me half the fun is in the browsing, comparing, planning.

I could spend all day going from jewellery store to jewellery store!
