The cost of my wedding ring probably wouldn't cover the cost of the bride's frilly garter nowadays!

I have finally told my daughter that we are staying at the Hotel New York next month. Up until now she thought we were back at the Holiday Inn. I can finally change my ticker.

It is quite an exciting prospect, but it is quite scary at the same time. I'm not sure it'll happen, but we will end up happy! I'm determined!

My ring should be resized by Friday.... Might not go pick it up then, but we'll see..... Maybe Sunday! I can't wait to have it in the house!

I'd prefer white gold but my engagement ring is yellow gold with a sapphire in the centre and (tiny tiny!) diamonds around it so I have to go for yellow gold and quite a plain band, anything else doesn't go at all. And I still don't have that much money to spend although more than £20!

It sounds very like my Mum's engagement ring.... She has two wedding bands (Her original wedding band was too thick to allow all her other rings on!) and one is a Gold patterned one, the other is just a simple band.... I'm sure whatever you get will look lovely. Have you considered a white and yellow gold ring??

That sounds wonderful Bob - both your bracelet which I love and the wedding band. Funnily enough I'm looking at wedding bands at the moment as when we got married almost 12 yrs ago we had hardly any money (our wedding cost us £52 - the cost of the registry office!) and my wedding ring was £20. It got very uncomfortable a few years ago and I haven't worn it. I ordered some Goldsmiths vouchers with Clubcard points and I will get a new ring soon. Although actually they are a lot more expensive than H Samuels anyway...

I had new rings a few years ago - A vintage wedding band to replace my Ratners, (remember them) Russian ring - it wasn't that cheap but one of the bands split, well he did admit his stuff was rubbish and a beautiful Aquamarine (my birthstone) and Diamond Engagement ring to replace my £39 Gus Jones one. I do still wear the other ones occasionally though, they may not have any monetary value but the sentimental value is priceless.

We have decided we are not going to tell DD that we are going. We'll tell her on the day that we are going away for a few days and see how far we get before she clicks. We may even pretend we are just going to another part of France if she asks when we get to the tunnel.

Even if she guesses though we are not going to tell her which hotel we are staying in until we actually arrive
