We just found out that we will be spending a weekend in July in Charleston. Our boys are 5 & 3. Any suggestions of fun things to do??

There is a lot to do in Charleston. My kids love exploring the Yorktown aircraft carrier in Mt Pleasant. The aquarium is decent and I heard they just reopened the theater next door (used to be IMAX but they show regular movies now too). Walking through the "slave" market and watching the ladies make the sweetgrass baskets is fun. Boone Hall Plantation can be fun if not too hot (not sure what they're growing now, but it is blueberry and peach season). Bubba Gumps (based on Forrest Gump) is a neat, fun place to eat. Charleston has lots of good eating places. Over the bridge in Mt Pleasan is Shim Creek with lots of neat places. In the evening you can watch the dolphins hang out while the fisherman clean their catch. There are beaches, Ft Sumter, haunted tours, walking around the Battery, and the Pineapple Fountain to check out too. The park district also runs a few water parks ie Whilring Waters, Roaring Waters and other around the Charleston area.

Have a great time!

My husband worked in Charleston every other week for over a year. As a result, my son and I learned to embrace my love of Charleston with some fun for him too. My son loves the Splash Zone water park at James Island. There are three waterparks that are operated by the county parks. We have been to all three, but Splash Zone is a favorite. They are a great value and super way to spend a hot July afternoon. The splash fountain at the waterfront park in downtown Charleston is also a nice way to cool off in the afternoons. The horse carraige tour of downtown is fun just be warned that my son (especially when he was younger) has fallen asleep during the tour on several occasions. Apparently too much history for a little boy. It is fun to visit the barn area where the carraige tours depart from. The aquarium is a great option and you can also go to an IMAX film while you are in the area (they are right beside each other). We love to have lunch at Fleet Landing- a restaurant located right on the water near the market.
