OT: ChaCha

The other guide had already given the answer to the question - if they had answered properly - I would not have needed to give the answer! This was my reply

Sorry about that! Here is the full number to Sweet Sensations by Sue: (775) 883-4900 ChaCha for now! Text back soon!

I don't see why I would need to give the information that another guide had previously given - otherwise I always give both. I made TG so I guess it doesn't really matter but I really think that QC has a lot of issues - I have gotten 3 and only one was IMO legit - If they had affected my TG status I would have been mad -and so many people got QC for someone else last week - that would make me really mad!!

I think you are entirely justified in fighting that QC. They need to look at the whole picture and not just a part.

I have been accepted into the guide program and now have to take the readiness test. But before I do this, they want me to install Firefox. Will this override my Internet Exporer? Also, realistically, how many hours and what kind of money can I expect? Can you share your thoughts on this? Thanks!

I have explorer and firefox installed on my computer. I only use firefox for ChaCha - when things are going well (after you get the hang of everything) I can answer about 30 questions and hour and make about $6 - I work on my laptop - so if I am in front of the TV - I am working - it sure makes me feel A LOT less guilty for the time I spend watching tv!!!!

No, it won't override IE unless you somehow make Firefox your default browser. Firefox, in my opinion, is a lot safer and has a lot less pop-ups than IE anyway.

I made top guide and 100/100 my first week, but didn't get 200 searches in my second week. I finished up my 200 searches last night for my 3rd week (so they'd still count at $.20) and then will take a break until next week when the next list comes up (so I can go back to $.20).

It's just not worth it to me to do it for less. I have yet to break $100 and I probably have 35 hours logged. That's sad. I've been reading the money threads on the forums and trying to figure out how I can get faster. I'm usually around 3 minutes, sometimes really short, but sometimes 10 minutes looking for the right answer! It makes me wonder. Do all these people that make $10+ an hour just send the fastest "good enough" answer? I mean, the answer could be "right," but it might not be exactly what the IS is looking for, KWIM? I have yet to get a QC email, so it makes me wonder if I'm overthinking finding the "right" answers.
Also, how many of those people are super fast typers? What are all your typing speeds? I'm only about 40 wpm, and even slower when I get bogged down in editing an answer to fit in the 130 characters.

I have lots of add-ons, clippings, tabs, etc. I just can't figure out how to get much faster?

My answers usually take around 2 or so minutes. I don't worry about finding the perfect answer. Find a part of it and type MORE? after your answer.

I'm a really fast typer, so maybe that has something to do with it. I think I'm around 70 wpm.

I haven't read the entire thread. I tried ChaCha a few years ago, but the application at the time was far from user friendly & I didn't like the customer sitting there waiting / chatting while I searched for them.

Anyway, toyed with trying it again now that is has changed so much. However, I've seen some of you touch on something I hadn't really thought about before. By doing all these searches (and some for less than angelic info) are you finding your computers picking up any virusus, spam, popups.....? We have a brand new computer. DH is a systems admin, so we are up on everything we are supposed to have for protection. But he would absolutely kill me if I did ChaCha & was constantly picking up stuff to mess up our computer & he had to keep fixing it.

Have you found that to be much of an issue?

I made the vacation week top guide!!! I was so worried it wouldn't work.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned before, but I was wondering if there was any way to not get the "Xplicit" questions. Is there a category you shouldn't select when signing up, or is there something you can change in your profile/options? Thanks!:)

I do the same thing, I make sure to get my 200 in by Weds. evening so I can get 20 cents and meet minimums if I drop to 10 cents.

If I ever do get 10 cents for the rest of the week- I'll still work but consider that bonus searches.

Also, try to never spend 10 mins looking for the 'perfect' answer. Do your best but don't over analyze! Many of my searches are under 2 mins and most are around 1min. Every once in a while I get one that takes me 5 or 6 mins to complete.

Good Luck! Thank you using ChaC..... ooops - NEVER mind ;)

when you do your categories, don't pick the xplicit ones, but the categories aren't up and running yet. I think even when they are up and running, you may still get the overflow xplicit questions. In time, you'll learn how to get around the offensive ones...like jokes about a specific race that aren't demeaning at all (I have a file). For the adult content questions I try to be very vague or discuss safety and cleanliness if its appropriate. There have been two cases where I just couldn't allow myself to answer the question, and I aborted them in the hopes the next guide was less sensitive than I.

I've done about 600 searches and haven't gotten one yet. My DH is also a network engineer so our computers are pretty rock solid as well (though DH's two computers have each gotten a virus in the last week! LOL).
I've always been a internet surfing junkie, so I know enough through searches what to click and what not to. I also stick to chacha's links for the xplicit questions, knowing that they've been pre-screened for junk. ChaCha also published a long list of "do not go to these sites", but there's no way I could keep track of those each time. My computer runs norton every day and Firefox seems pretty solid compared to IE 7. Popups are turned off in FF except for chacha's.

Sweetpea, that must be my problem, I'm so worried about the accuracy rating so I look for THE answer. I don't know how lienient they are on "good enough" or "sorta" answers. Guess I should test the system, don't know if I don't try.

BTW, I even "tested" the guides and asked for DLR ride closures for a particular week (EASY to find!). After 10 minutes, they said it wasn't available (for october?!). So I replied back and even told them to go to the disney site and check under 'calendar.' The second guide just gave me a number to call disney myself for ride closures. Guess that just proves the "good enough" theory.

Yup, I've done this and I've been really mad about some of the answers I get. I asked one time what day of the cycle ovulation begins, and the answer I got was "ovulation begins after the surge." Surge?!? So now I don't really worry about getting the most perfect answer.

I'm thinking about applying as a guide. Kinda nervous about it. I haven't held a "real' job since may of '98 when I quit my field to stay home with my children.

What about the other side? Does it costs the people who ask questions? If not, how does Cha-cha make money?

I guess I'm not meant to do this. I was very very careful to write down my user name and password but I must have goofed somewhere. I received the email to log-in but I keep getting an error that my info is wrong. If I can't even pass the user name and email part ... well, that's pretty bad. i didn't even see a link to have my info re-sent. :(

Is this something you have to do when you sign up, or can I go and change it now. Thanks for your help! :)
