This young mother in my friend's neighborhood is about to have her 4th child. She called my friend to see if she could pick up her son who attends the same preschool as my friend's daughter. Both kids are four. My friend tells her that she has no carseat for him. The other mom says, "That's ok.".
Well I happened to be in the car with my friend when she was asked. She was not comfortable with doing this, but agreed. She went to the school and the teachers doing carpool were not happy about putting this boy in her car with no carseat.
She dropped the kid off, and told the mom that she wouldn't be doing that anymore as it was illegal and scary. The other mom had no idea that it was against the law not to have your kid in a carseat at that age. Her oldest daughter isn't using anything at all, and her two other kids; 4 and 2, use those booster seats with a lap belt.
I was talkin' to the same friend about this again yesterday, and she said that more than not, it seems that people are a lot more lax about this kind of thing than she or I. For real? I mean.. I only have one DD. Maybe I'm overprotective, but I don't want to learn the hard way.
My DH says, "If ya got that many, what's one less?"
What do you use for your children, and how old are they?
