Wanting to visit Gatlinburg this summer and was wondering if anyone could give me info. on campgrounds in that area. Looking for something well-kept with shade and nice bathhouses. Thanks for helping

Pine Mountain in pigeon Forge is nice but no shade. They do have creek sites.

Google them

if not tent camping try Rivers Edge on the Gatlinburg end of Pigeon Forge. we have had good stays there.

We stay in Pigeon Forge here.....

I agree. It's the best campground in pigeon forge. The logcabin resturant is very good to eat at in front, but get there early. Also, the Best Little Pizza Resturant in Gat., TN is very good, but get there EARLY. Basicly, get to any Resturant EARLY. :rotfl:

Our campground is Elkmont in the Park from Gatlinburg - and a river runs through it----------:thumbsup2

You not that far from Gatlinburg that you could do a long day trip to drive up and scout some campgrounds. I have done that in the past.

We stayed here in July 2011...(albeit in a cabin)...VERY shady- loved this campground! Because we stayed in a cabin, we didn't have much need for the bathhouses, but I remember one was attached to pool area and it was very clean and smelled actually like cotton candy...LOL! (And that says alot for me to remember that..I am very picky about smells, etc.)

We had planned on heading into Gatlinburg during the days, but had so much fun on the campground itself and going into Cades Cove, tubing, etc. that we never did! (We stayed there 6 nights I believe.)

We've stayed at the Pigion Forge KOA twice and found it to be nice. Sites are close together but still okay. Very close to Dollywood. If anyone in the family is a car nut Floyd Garrets Muscle Car Meusem is not far (maybe 15 mins) and is a must see for any gearhead .If your a drinker , the last time we were there it was a dry county, even though they Jack Dainels near by.

I'll second the vote for staying in Townsend if you prefer staying in a much less touristy and more natural setting. There's still plenty of restaurants and things to do, but you avoid a lot of the crass commercialism that Pigeon Forge and even Gatlinburg have become inundated with. Elkmont and the other campgrounds within the park are nice, but there are no hookups and there are some fairly strict regulations about generator use (there are areas where generator use is forbidden and where they are allowed they are limited from 8 am to 8 pm); they also tend to fully book up months in advance.
