Anyone ever have very heavy menstral problems? Going to the doctor in the AM for my "options"...... I practically can't even leave the house due to the 'flooding' that I have.
What are my options? I am 38, so we are convienceing ourselves no more kids... so anything goes.
Anyone?:confused3
Thanks... I am getting nervous....:sad2:

My friend swears by her IUD. Sometimes insurance covers them, sometimes not, but after having it in for a few months she had no period at all. I have terrible periods as well, and my doc said it may not make them go away completely, but will help immensley. I can't leave the house either and if I worked outside my home I would lose my job every month!
I am sorry you have to deal with this, I know it sucks!

My friend had an ablation. Very light, almost non-existent periods for her.

Thanks guys... I know my doc will give me options... but just want to know what to expect & others experiences too.
I thought ablaision too - but talked to 2 good friends that it didn't work on & they only had to go through a hystorectomy anyways... so just nervous!

An ablation isn't for everyone. If fibroids or endo (I think) are a cause for your problems, then this may not work for you. For me, it has been a great option though. I went into my doc's office begging for a hysterectomy, and I'm so glad he convinced me to do the ablation first.

I had an ablation in Oct. 2008 and it changed my life. I did not realize how bad I was feeling from being so iron deficient from my very heavy periods and my hormones being out of control. Within a few months of it, I felt better than I had in a long time, started taking care of myself again, lost 40 lbs. and was a much better wife and mother. Now my periods are almost non-existent. I know this isn't an option for everyone, but talk to your doctor about it as an option. I've been in your shoes and I hope everything works out for you!

Also my doc prescribed Lysteda...i have really bad/heavy periods and last month was GREAT..

I also had an ablation at 41 and it was the best thing I ever did! You cannot get pg after you have had one done. So, if you are not totally sure about whether you want to have another child or not, you may want to go a birth control route.

I've had the mirena IUD for the past 5 years (need to get a new one) and haven't had a period since. I love it!

I also have had a Mirena IUD for 6 years and haven't had a period at all, no spotting...nothing. If you do change your mind about having a child they simply remove it and you can immediately start trying.

My mom had 2 oblations, and both really decreased flow and worked for about 5 years. She ended up having a historectomy, but the obliations were much less invasive and painful, and delayed the need for the hysto. by 10 years.

I had the same problems as you for years, plus infertility. My doc put me on the pill. I have endo and fibroids. It has taken care of my problems, but I wish there was an alternative. I really don't like being on the pill. I just don't feel the same - hard to describe. I let my script lapse last month just to test the waters. What a mistake! While I felt great, my period was horrible.

So, the pill works, but it has its drawback too (for me anyway). I have also had three laproscopies (sp?) over the past 10 years. They help too.

I have the same problem, and I get my period every 17 days.I am at WITS END.I am asking about an ablation and if that doesn't work, I want a hysterectomy.I am 36yrs old,no longer a candidate for Oral BCP and done having children.

I also had an ablation and it didnt work the bleeding was still real bad (go figure) so i ended up getting a hysterectomy in feb of this year and am doing great. i just turned 44 so im also done having children considering im now a grandma :lmao: so this was best for me.. good luck..

First you need to find out why your periods are so heavy. I had an ultrasound that showed a polyp and very, very thick lining. Got a D&C and polypectomy done, and was negative for cancer thank goodness. Still had heavy bleeding. Doc prescribed Lysteda which has worked well, but then put me on the pill. The pill began to work really well in Jan and Feb so I stopped the lysteda, but this month I'm having issues. I'm probably going to try an ablation sooner rather than later. The idea of putting me on BCP was to see if I could lose weight by my annual in July and improve my periods that way instead of doing the ablation, but I don't see myself losing 50 pounds by July.

Good luck!

I never had your issue, but I have an IUD and love it - it has completely eliminated periods. I was on the pill but got a blood clot and had to go off.

I am not trying to take away from you I promise, but I have been wondering about something similar... has anyone ever started to get cramps at WDW and how do you handle that?
