OT - Calling women only please....

Surgery is set & there is no turning back!
I am nervous but know I will get my life back & my periods won't be running me in circles (to the bathroom) anymore. That is my goal & what is keeping me from freaking out!
Thanks everyone for your advice.... now the waiting game until surgery! (May 11th)

Good luck! I had a regular hysterectomy 3.5 years ago and it was the best thing ever. The recovery took a long time but wasn't terrible. My mom came for a little over a week and helped since I couldn't drive---that was great. In all honesty I started driving less than 2 weeks after (right after my mom left). The same day she left my husband and I went to Target and got a bike for our youngest son's birthday. I would get up daily (it does hurt getting up the first few days) and take slow 'laps' around the house and I did the halls in the hospital.

It is so nice not to have to worry about them.

Best of luck to you. As long as you are not suffering that is what matters. :goodvibes

:) I am 42 and do not have children and had my ablation in April 2009, in Dec 2010 I started spotting agian for 2 days but I can deal with that. Will see my Dr. 4/28.

My suggestion was to make sure you fill out your FMLA forms at work and use your disability insurance if you have it. FMLA is a federal law that protects your employment for up to 12 weeks.

Wow, Now I know I am not alone! I've had heavy periods my whole life Birth control helped. After my son was born, I didn't want to go back on BC-I've tried everything, and didn't really like it. I have the mirana IUD, but now my periods are so bad-like others on this post. My Dr. and I talked about the ablation. She is concerned because you shouldn't get pregnant after. I'm 40 and know I don't want any more children. Early menopause runs in my family, but I don't want to wait and find out that I wont be as lucky as my mom and grandmother!!!
After reading this I feel more comfortable about my discision. Thank you ladies for sharing

I am so sorry for what you are going through! I had my hysterectomy in Oct '09 at 33. It was the best decision I ever made, I had no idea the impact my horrible periods were having on my life. I had a DaVinci surgery so I had 6 very small incisions but recovery for me was better than one of my periods. I already had 2 children and we knew we were done but I did experience regret for a short period of time afterwards, I think it is part of the process. I kept my ovaries and cervix since I was young and they were healthy. The pain completely disappeared and I no longer have to worry about if I have enough pads and tampoons when I leave the house!
Please feel free to pm me if you have any questions or anything!

First you need to find out why your periods are so heavy. I had an ultrasound that showed a polyp and very, very thick lining. Got a D&C and polypectomy done, and was negative for cancer thank goodness. Still had heavy bleeding. Doc prescribed Lysteda which has worked well, but then put me on the pill. The pill began to work really well in Jan and Feb so I stopped the lysteda, but this month I'm having issues. I'm probably going to try an ablation sooner rather than later. The idea of putting me on BCP was to see if I could lose weight by my annual in July and improve my periods that way instead of doing the ablation, but I don't see myself losing 50 pounds by July.

Good luck!

Since the above post I have had another ultrasound which again showed thick lining and ovarian cysts. I had an endometrial biopsy which was negative for cancer. AF has showed early again while I am on active pills. I'm over this. My ablation is scheduled for 5/19. DH had a vasectomy almost 2 years ago so there is really no reason not to. I do have to go have a pre-op talk with my OB next week. If the ablation does not work then I want a hysterectomy.
