OT: braces question

My oldest daughter has been in braces for 2 years........she had to have her
K9 teeth pulled because her adult ones didnt come in. So we had her 4 wisdom teeth and her 2 teeth were pulled in one day........at the same time they cut the palatte of her mouth and put chains on the adult k9s to pull them down. That was June of 2010. As of now, one of the teeth is in the process of coming in, the other one hasnt even broke thru yet.

My other daughter just got braces last week. She had to have the tooth behind the K9s on each side pulled because she had an awful overbite.

Both of my girls have tiny little mouths, both wore braces, both had to have teeth pulled. At the age of 13 they still had lots of baby teeth, some had adult teeth behind them that had never come in, and a couple that had no adult tooth buds, so we kept those, pulled the ones that had adult teeth to replace them. DD24 still has the baby teeth we kept. She had a palate expander, DD13 did not, but may have to bracket and pull down the adult teeth, still waiting to see. Sometimes those baby teeth just don't want to come out! What an expensive mess! I blame DH's side of the family.

I had some teeth pulled. It wasn't something the ortho discussed with my mom beforehand, he just saw that a couple were loose-ish and in his way, so he took them out. About 3 of them, no anesthetic. It didn't hurt (much) but I'll never forget the looks of horror on the faces of the kids in the waiting area as I passed them to "go wash up". I realized why they looked so weird when I saw myself in the mirror with my bib spattered liberally with blood.

This was among the more traumatic of my orthodontic experiences.
