Hi - We just returned from Bonnet Creek resort and are curious in finding out about Fairfield points system.

We know enough to buy resale and have signed up for the yahoo group.

Just wondering if anyone here could answer a few questions?

1. When purchasing resale points...how do you combine points? For instance...if you buy 100,000 one place and 100,000 another...do you pay two different maintenance fees at two different resorts?

2. What other fees are involved? I know about the exchange fees and housekeeping points?, but are there any others to know about? Do you pay two different exchange fees on each of those 100,000 points?

3. Where do most people look to buy resale points? Ebay?

Any info or help would be really appreciated. I've done a "Fairfield" search on these boards and came across a lot of info, but am still confused on how things actually work.

We like the idea of timeshare ownership, but need to be convinced it would make financial sense for us.

Thanks so much! Any and all opinions are welcome! Have a great day.

I suggest trying www.tug2.net

I think you have to pay to join, but it's not much and they have great message boards and advice. I was a member a few years ago when I was debating on some timeshare options. (Went with DVC so I let my membership drop)

Tug also has resale pages, those are free.

HeatherC,

You did the right thing by joining the Yahoo group as there is a wealth of information about FF/Wyn.
I bought our points resale from Ebay in the middle of Jan and I already received our membership just last week.
After I won the auction, I asked the seller to provide the contract number and owners name and called FF/Wyn to make sure the points amounts and maint. fees were correct (and up to date) before I sent my payment to the ebay seller. I didn't want any suprises.
Being a new member I'm still learning the system but besides the monthly maint. fees there are fees to exchange your pts into RCI/II and fees to make guest ressies for friends/family.

I am a Fairfield (now called Wyndham) owner. Please let me know how to access this Yahoo group. I'd love to check it out to get more insight and knowledge on my timeshare. It can be confusing. We havent utilized it at all since buying and we want to start getting our value instead of just banking points with RCI!

Thanks BRIAN NOBLE! Fast info! That's what I love about the DIS community! Its a small world afterall :) I'm sure this will be a great resource! Thanks again!

You already have most of the answers. Buy resale & join the Yahoo! Group. Both are right on. For the others:

1. When purchasing resale points...how do you combine points? For instance...if you buy 100,000 one place and 100,000 another...do you pay two different maintenance fees at two different resorts?

Yes. You would pay two different annual fees to two resorts but with one account number. Even if you have two weeks at one resort (as we do) you get two lines of billing information - one for each week.

2. What other fees are involved? I know about the exchange fees and housekeeping points?, but are there any others to know about? Do you pay two different exchange fees on each of those 100,000 points?

No. Once you pay the annual fees everything else is treated as one account. You get X number of housekeeping credits (we've never run short in over ten years). You also have X transactions (based on the amount of points) - we have only exceeded that a few times.

3. Where do most people look to buy resale points? Ebay?

Sign up for Angel Bittle's FF group also on Yahoo. She has some great deals often.

Once you buy your resale points take some time to learn the best tricks of pooling (banking), when to rent additional points (can be a great deal), borrow from future years and much more about maximizing the value. It took us about a year but once we caught on it has been a great system. We have stayed at about 15 FF resorts and always look forward to the next one. Enjoy.
