Hey all - This June DH and I are going to Baltimore for our 5th anniversary (OMG, where did the time go?? Didn't I just graduate HS last year???:scared1: ) without the kids. We went there last July with the kids, and truthfully didn't have the best of time because it was so dreadfully hot and humid, and we had to be back to the hotel room every night by 6pm to get the kids ready for bed. This time, since we will be kid-less, we are looking to do more "adult" stuff day and night. We are going for 3 days, 2 nights, and one of our nights we are going to a baseball game, but the other night (and days) are free. Does anyone have any ideas that are NOT sports or kid related? We are staying at Days Inn Inner Harbor just like last time. Its not at all like I would have imagined a Days Inn to look like, its actually pretty nice! We are about 3 blocks from the Inner Harbor, maybe 5 from the baseball staduim.... thats about it - just need some advice on what fun adult things there are to do, and some good restaurant ideas. We don't want to have to drive anywhere, planning on staying within walking distance. Thanks in advance for the help!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

There are quite a few nice restaurants to choose from. We ate at McCormick and Schmick's Seafood and had some delicious crab cakes. Morton's Steak House was right next door. I am sure you can find one that serves the kind of food you like. There is a nice mall there where you can window shop. ESPN zone for some competetive fun!! You can enjoy the aquarium without the children(look at what you want to look at, take your time) Our hotel package included discounted aquarium tickets so check to see, we saved some $$. There were lots of places to enjoy relaxing cocktails outside and there were outdoor performances(free) that drew quite a crowd when we were there last July. It was a relaxing trip for us and our 10 yr old. We are from NJ too, origionally Ocean City, so it was an easy drive. Have a wonderful time.

Just make sure you get some of those great Maryland crabs while you're there!!

My brother and his wife LOVE a seafood place called Shuckers, I think it's in Fells Point. I like the Inner Harbor, it's nice to just walk around and enjoy people watching.

Thanks so much for the quick responces! Just a little more info - I will eat anything - Sushi, Steak, Thai, Seafood, Chinese, Indian, anything.... DH, not so much!!! He likes.... meat and potatoes, Italian too. I'm not to worried about him though, if we go out to a special place for what I like, he usually just sucks it up, and finds the most "American" thing on the menu, and thats if we do that! We are not big drinkers at all (I will have a drink maybe two or three times a year), and we are both doing Weight Watchers, though we will be somewhat off when on vacation, we don't want to undo the months of dieting for anything!!

There are some really good place sin Little Italy. I cnat recall where I went for my bachelorette party, but it was good. mY il's live in Anne Arundel Co, and we used to also, so we go to Baltimore every so often.

In the inner harbor, the Cheesecake Factory is pretty popular. As for night life, Power Plant has a lot of bars, but I am not that familiar with Balt, so not sure how far it is from where you are staying.

I agree that the Aquarium is nice no matter what age. There are some really nice shops in the area, too, although I am not fond of the ones directly on the waterfront, but there is one just across the street, connected to a parkign garage, with really nice shops. Overall, we havent been there much without the kids, but when dh and I first got together we spent a lot of time at Fells point looking around, or walkign around the inner harbor, going to little Italy for cannoli's. In fact we saw a show featuring cannolis onc,e thought it sounded good, and were down in Baltimore within 1/2 hr getting oursleves some!lol

There's a bar at the Power Plant (walking distance to your hotel) called Howl at the Moon!! It is a dueling piano bar...we had SUCH A BLAST when we went last summer!!! There might be a cover charge...but I don't remember it being over $5 per person!! :thumbsup2

Definitly be sure to visit Fells Point and Federal Hill which are both in walking distance of Inner Harbour or you can take a water taxi to Fells Point. But, if you walk you can enjoy a little something "extra" at dinner and not feel guilty.

If you like Sushi, there's a great sushi/raw bar in the market in Federal Hill. It's right in the center of the market. Don't let looks deceive you, this is no frills, fresh from the sea grade sushi, and the prices aren't bad. Visit during lunch because I don't think it's open past 5pm....have a spicy tuna roll and some raw oysters and you're set.

Even if you're not big drinkers, I would also say check out Fells Point, there are lots of cool bars/restaurants down there....many of the bars have open mike nites or local bands which are usually very good.

to get some local reviews on other restaurants in the area, I always check out www.chowhound.com, it's kinda like the dis board but it's all about food.

Enjoy Camden Yards, it's my favorite baseball stadium!

Thanks for the info on Fells Point. I looked it up, and it looks great! The furthest place I mapquested from my hotel is 1.5 miles, not to far at all! I'll have to look into Federal Hill next.
Again, thanks everyone for your help! I'm really planning of making the most of this alone time with DH since we get... NONE!! Ah, the joy of kids! :lovestruc

Hi
There's a great Italian restaurant in Little Italy called Della Note. The atmosphere is really nice and the food is excellent. It's not far from Inner Harbor. My son went to college at UMBC right outside of Baltimore and we'd spend a lot of time at Inner Harbor. We'd always go to ESPN also. Have a great time!!

Sabatino's has great Italian food and save room for dessert but not at the restaurant. Vacarro's is a block away ~ your waitress will point you in the right direction ~ mail me an eclair, okay!

Sabatino's in Little Italy. Gunning's in Brooklyn for crabs. There are a couple nice harbor cruises like the Bay Lady. Some are at night with DJ and dancing. No trip to Fell's Point is complete without a visit to "The Horse You am In On." I "think" it was right outside this bar where Edgar Allan Poe was found in the curb, dying. You can also see the outside of the building where "Homicide" was filmed and visit "The Waterfront." which is right across the street and was the bar they used in the series. There is a harbor taxi that will take you to Fell's Point from the Inner Harbor. You can also go to Ft. McHenry on the water taxi.

The aquarium and the science center are nice, of course.

Have fun!

Mary

DOn't forget to visit Ft. McHenry where the Star Spangle Banner was written. It is a boat and bus trip from the Inner Harbor. It is a great little trip if you like historical things.

The science museum has an Imax which often has late evening shows that you couldn't take your kids to. I haven't been in the science museum but it has just been renovated so it should be nice to be able to look around without your kids.

There is also a boat tour you could take and get on and off as often as you would like.

Have fun. Dh loved the baseball stadium.
