When we went to have DS 10 diagnosed, the developemental ped.'s nurse told me exactly how to have the referral written to them by the primary so it was covered. His OT and ST(all done by now) were covered for xtimes, then I payed cash. He now attends 2x/month a class that works on gross motor & social skills. I pay cash($45 per session) as it is cheaper than running through insurance/co-pay. The provider is out of network, so it's more.
He was enrolled in our county preschool, which handles 'special needs' and typical children. It was so good, his younger "typical" brother is attending now with the same teacher.
Our school district has been wonderful(trust me I was suprised). He gets APE at school, he's caught up with his reading(change to IEP coming) to do LA in the class. He only goes to the special ed. teacher for taking tests(not spelling) for the extra time. He's a straight A student. I guess we are lucky, as one of the 4th grade teachers told me this will be the 4th year they have had an AS child. Only thing I really need to do is for his review, have his developmental ped. write down he is diagnosed with AS.
