We have the pavillion 9000 with the number pad (keyboard more like those with desktops) and think there is a problem with it. When the num lock is on so we can use numbers, some of the letter keys also produce numbers. J=1, etc. HP claims this is normal and that we must turn the num lock off, which makes it somewhat useless. Anyway, if you have one, does yours do this also?

Thank you so much.

Mods can move this if need be, as I wasn't sure where to post. I was hoping that someone in this large community could help figure out if this is normal.

We have the HP dv8000 with the number keypad. I leave the num lock on all of the time and can type the letters without any problems. I hope that I am understanding your questions correctly. That sounds like a problem to me!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the quick response. And, you understand correctly. I cannot get a letter j (or k or l, etc) when the num lock is on. Darn HP is giving me the runaround. Thanks for helping with the "proof".

I think my keyboard is like the one you're describing. Is it like the numpad has been overlayed on the regular keyboard, example J also has a small 1, K also has a small 2 and so on. If you have numlock on then those letter keys will only type the numbers. It's a way to have the numpad on a laptop. Like when you're only typing in numbers.
